Thank you for your generous donations to the Home & School Association this year (dues). We have currently reached 68% participation from the student population. We would like to achieve 100% participation to avoid future active fundraisers. There is still time to donate to the HSA this year. Because of your generosity, we are able to provide assemblies, student planners, playground equipment, and several other activities/supplies for the benefit of your children.

Principal's Post - A Weekly Note From Mr. Ortman
Happy Friday Everyone!
We at Mill Creek are in the holiday spirit, and we hope you are as well. Each year during the holiday season, the staff and students of Mill Creek Elementary School take action to help others by participating in a holiday giving project focused on providing support to several families in the Mill Creek community. In some years, we have assembled food baskets. This year, we will be providing support to families in a different way. We will be participating in a collection effort to provide those in need with holiday gifts and gift cards.
You can support our efforts in two ways. They are:
Children can do a random act of kindness or a chore at home to earn money. That money can then be donated to our project. There will be collection jars in the main lobby for children to donate the money they earned. Contributions will be collected beginning Monday, Nov. 26th and continue through Friday, Dec. 14th.
There will also be a giving tree in the main lobby. Please consider taking a tag and donating a $10.00 gift card to Walmart or Target. Please return the gift cards to Ms. BUDNIEWSKI, RN, school nurse no later than Friday, Dec 14th.
If you are aware of any family that may benefit from our project, please call Ms. Budniewski, our school nurse. She can be reached by phone at 267-893-3615 or email at kbudniewski@cbsd.org .
We appreciate your voluntary participation in this worthwhile project. We truly believe that in giving we also receive, and helping others immeasurably enriches our children's lives.
Enjoy the weekend!!!
Sincerely,
Shawn M. Ortman

Happy Friday Creekers!
Today our students will attend a CREEKERS Code assembly. Students will be reviewing our CREEKERS' Code traits, specifically excellence. I love teaching and learning about character traits through children's books. Books are great sources of examples for children to think about making good choices.
On my bookshelf I have many picture books about determination and perseverance, which fit right along with our excellence trait. One of my favorite books is Thank you, Mr. Falker by Patricia Polacco. Polacco writes about her own struggles in school and overcoming dyslexia. This story is engaging and motivating for all children.
Ella doesn't have this book yet on her bookshelf, but I will definitely be adding this title to her collection!
Ask your child to share what he/she learned at our assembly!
Happy Hanukkah!
Have a great weekend!

Information from Mr. Losch - Mill Creek Band Director
From: Mr. Losch – Mill Creek Band Director (10/24/18)
To: Mill Creek Band Parents
Subject: 6th Grade Band Rehearsals
Dear Band Parents,
Each December, a tradition at Mill Creek has been to present a Winter Holiday Concert. This show will include the Sixth-Grade Concert Band, in addition to the 5th & 6th Grade Orchestra and Mill Creek Chorus. This program will be presented to the Mill Creek students and staff on the morning of Tuesday, December 18th at 9:00am.
Because this program is geared more for the Mill Creek students, you are welcome to attend a second performance just for the family and friends of the Mill Creek performers. This performance will be held in the Cafeteria/All-Purpose Room on Tuesday, December 18th at 7:00pm.
For this special occasion I have set aside six rehearsals for the Sixth Grade Concert Band that should provide a sufficient amount of time to prepare for the upcoming program. Because of the many activities that already take place during the day, all the rehearsals will be taking place before the school day. Your child will require a ride to school for each of the morning rehearsals listed below.
Monday, November 12th at 7:45am
Monday, November 19th at 7:45am
Monday, November 26th at 7:45am
Monday, December 3rd at 7:45am
Monday, December 10th at 7:45am
Tuesday, December 18th at 7:45am
I realize the inconvenience this may cause, but your child’s attendance is necessary for a successful performance. Your cooperation in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Some students have already expressed an interest in carpooling with others. So, if you have any questions, feel free to call me at Mill Creek (267.893.1564), or email me at plosch@cbsd.org. I teach at Mill Creek on Mondays.
Should inclement weather cause a delayed school opening on the day of an early morning rehearsal, that rehearsal will be rescheduled for later in the day when classes are in session. Thank you again for supporting your child’s interest in instrumental music. They are a pleasure to work with!
Sincerely,
Mr. Paul Losch
