April 16, 2020
We are officially in week 5 of our closure. Below I have included several updates for you as we continue on this journey of providing distance learning opportunities and supports to our students.
New Instructional Materials
The next round of materials will be available online on our At Home Connection website on Friday evening. Schools have been working directly with families to make arrangements for paper packets and additional Chromebooks.
Graduation Task Force
I have asked Anne Gellrich, Executive Director of Secondary Education, to convene a task force of student leadership, teachers, high school administrators, and community leaders to discuss the various ideas of how to recognize our graduating seniors. We are still unsure if the Maryland State Department of Education will prolong this closure, but I think we are safe to assume that regardless of our school year status, the requirement for social distancing and the limitations on large groups will most likely mean that our traditional graduation ceremonies will need to be handled differently this year. However, we know what a milestone high school graduation is and we believe that our seniors need to be recognized for their years of hard work. It will be the work of this task force to develop several different scenarios going forward.
As a result of the current closure, enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year has been postponed until further notice. New enrollment dates will be communicated once the state determines when schools will reopen.
Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation as we all navigate this time together!
