High Levels of Learning for All!
What's Happening the Week of 3/9/15
I want to reiterate the importance of making sure your child is reading at home. This should be at least 20 minutes every night, even the weekends. I also need your help in making sure your child is completing their homework every night. Every night you can count on your child having reading, math, and most often spelling homework. If your child says they do not have any, please let me know.
We are going back to our flipped model math lessons. This means there will be a video for your child to watch each night. They will do the math journal pages that go with that video. They will also work on their math box. They will then do the study link in class the next day. The students are directed to circle any math problems they do not understand. These will be retaught to your child the next day, either one-to-one or in a small group. This model will allow the teachers to work with any students who need the extra support. Those students that understand, and can demonstrate their understanding, will have an opportunity to participate in enrichment activities. This model is beneficial and supports all learners in the classroom. **If your child does not have access to the internet/videos at home, they will be allowed to watch during morning work. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Our 3rd quarter ends on Wednesday. This includes completion of the student's AR reading goal. I will let you know if your child did not reach their reading goal. We will be working on setting new goals next week.
This week our class is participating in a fundraiser to help raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis. If the student body can raise 500.00, the students will duct tape Mrs. Houf to the wall in an effort to help fund a cure that "sticks'.
This Friday is the monthly PBS assembly. Friday evening is also the school musical, Dinosaurs Before Dark, at Champ Auditorium.
This Friday kicks off our Literacy Week which will take place all next week. A flyer will come home detailing our activities for next week. If you would be willing to read to our class, please let me know. We would LOVE guest readers!!!
