Girls Varsity Soccer Earns #6 Seed, Hosts De Anza at the New Ellison Field

Our varsity girls soccer team capped off a strong season by earning the 6th seed in the upcoming North Coast Section playoffs. The girls also earn the honor of being the first PHS team to play on the new Ellison Field surface when they host De Anza at 7PM on Wednesday evening. The Trojans (14-5-2, 10-2-2) will look to use their quickness and hustle to outscore the visiting Dons. Be the first to see the new field in action! Go Trojans!

Seating will be in the visitors bleachers. Please park in the PHS Student Lot. (There is absolutely no access to the Webster Street side of the stadium which is still under construction. Thank you.)

Crab Feed a Smashing Success!

Thank you to everyone who supported our student athletes by showing up at the Annual PHS Athletic Boosters Crab Feed Saturday night at Herzog Hall. The totals are still being tallied but everyone in attendance was struck by the generosity of the whole group. Once we get a number, we'll be sure to let you know, but I'm confident that you guys really came through! An enormous number of parents and community members make this happen every year, but I do want to recognize Barb Brooks for her leadership. Thank you everyone for helping our Trojans!

Packed House for College Night

A standing room only audience listened to the advice of David Elliott, college advisor, and members of the PHS counseling staff (Christine Ruzick and Molly Guerra) as they walked 9th, 10th and 11th grade parents and students through the college application process. Elliott reminded everyone that there are many college options out there for our students, and that it is important to support students and manage the stress of the process. Ms. Ruzick and Ms. Guerra reviewed a-g courses and the SAT/ACT testing process.

If you missed the evening, please check the PHS Counseling page on the school website or click the link below:

AcDec Success!

Congratulations to the PHS Academic Decathlon team! Last week, they competed among 13 schools in our region, finishing 3rd overall with a high point total. Individual medals were earned by Grant Henderson (silver in economics & bronze in essay), Mason Tooley (bronze in art & music), and Isaac Ulmer (bronze in art, music, and science). A possible state at-large berth is dependent on the scores around the state. Fingers crossed! Go Trojans!

AP Honors Evening February 22nd

Don't forget to put February 22nd on your calendar. If your student is planning on taking an honors or AP course in the 2018-19 school year, parents need to hear the specifics from staff so you are prepared to support your child. Watch next week's update for more detailed information!

Engineering and Manufacturing Update

Our engineering and manufacturing classes are hard at work, creating new designs! See below as students program one of our Haas CNC mills. In this case, it is the engraving for a bench in honor of Hailey Ponte, a former Petaluma High School student who tragically passed away last year.

Students also are working on Buddy Bench projects (the next one in line for Dunham School) and also designing specific projects through the PLTW (Project Lead the Way) program. In addition, the Engineering Department is partnering with the Society of Manufacturing Engineer's PRiME program to procure a new 3D printer for PHS. Exciting growth for this department!
