Wall of Honor - Please read

Dear Families-

April is designated as the Month of the Military Child. At Sherwood, we will be recognizing our military families throughout the month with a variety of events and activities. One of these activities is the creation of a “Wall of Honor” at Sherwood. All students are encouraged to recognize a member of their family who has served in the military by filling out a “Hero” paper. These papers will be displayed throughout the building. In the box on the paper please provide a photograph of your hero. All papers will be given back to you at the end of the month.

Please return the papers by Monday, April 6th. We look forward to honoring all our past and current heroes at Sherwood School.

Thank you for your support!

Looking for Morning Bin Supplies

We love our Friday Morning Bins! Each week we take 10-15 minutes to build, create, share, discuss and work as a team. It's a great team building experience for our tables. If you happen to have any morning bin supplies that you are no longer using, we would love to take them off your hands. Our past/current bins have included Legos, gears, unifix cubes, pattern blocks, Lincoln logs, cups, Kinex, etc. Thank you!!

Pre Conference Form / Spring Conferences

A Pre-conference form is headed home today. Since we only have 15 minutes, please complete the form and send it back by Friday, March 13th.

Hard to believe spring conferences are in a month! You should have received an email from PCTFast to sign up. They are 15 minutes long and it is just parent / teacher. If you have not signed up, please click the link in the email and pick the time that works best for you. I know many might be traveling. If so, we can schedule a phone conference during our conference window.

Leprechaun Traps

We will be designing and building leprechaun traps with our 4th grade buddies for St. Patrick's Day. We are in need of makerspace materials. Any of the following would be helpful for our builders:

- boxes

- tape

- paper towel tubes

- wrapping paper

- anything that would attract a leprechaun

ELA

Reading/Writing: This week, students researched a planet! Using PebbleGo, they read about their planet, asked questions they wanted to answer, wrote facts and practiced using vocabulary words in text and in a glossary. Next week, students will learn about the moon and continue research writing!

Phonics: Students worked with compound words. We brainstormed compound words and students searched for them in the text they read. We also practice rhyming words. Thinking of words with the same end chunk. Students worked with their differentiated word sort.

Handwriting: We are practicing taking "bare bones" sentences (really short and simple sentences) and adding adjectives and details.

Math

We finished up our unit on shapes and fractions. Students also worked on a challenge activity with fractions. They are tricky! We took a pretest for our next unit on addition and subtraction.

Questions to Ask Your Child

  • Can you brainstorm any compound words?
  • Tell me about the planet you researched.
  • When you think of this week, tell me something you are proud of.
  • When you think of this week, tell me about a challenge you overcame.
  • What is something kind you did this week?
