Hughes ELAC Meeting

Title 1 Update
Here at Hughes, we have a School Site Council (SSC) and English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC) to advise our school’s support and interventions for students. ELAC provides advocacy and advisement on support for students who are English Learners and shares this with School Site Council. School Site Council works to allocate the use of our Title 1 Funds, as well as LCFF, to support all students.
Our current Title 1 funding supports:
- A Restorative Justice Teacher of Special Assignment (TOSA) to support the SEL needs of our students through restorative practices, community building, and staff professional development and coaching. This position is currently vacant and we are in the process of looking for candidates.
- College Aides - we are actively recruiting college aides that will be intervention supports for students.
- An additional section of math support for students
- Male Leadership Academy
- WEB Orientation for students
Part of our Title 1 funding includes parent involvement monies. These funds are used to support parent workshops and events that we will hold throughout the year.
Each year, our School Site Council approves the Home-School Compact and Parent Guidelines for our school. Here are the approved documents for this year:
- Home-School Compact (English/Spanish)
- Parent Involvement Guidelines (English)
- Parent Involvement Guidelines (Spanish)
It is with our entire community working together that we are doing and going to do great things for our students!

Students Leaving Early (Early Outs)
When you know you are picking up your student early, please avoid the student lunch time and PE class. We are unable to call for students once they are dismissed to lunch and cannot allow adults to walk on campus. During PE classes, there is not always an available adult to let the students in to the locker room to obtain their belongings. Additionally, you are welcome to notify the office about the early out ahead of time and we can let the PE teacher and student know to keep their items with them during that time. Thank you for your help and understanding.

Hughes Guidelines for Success

Hughes - A Green Ribbon School
Reusable Water Bottles: We encourage all students to bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated and reduce our plastic waste.
Clean and Green: As a Green School, our students should not litter on or around campus. Please make sure that all items are thrown away and that we also pick up trash that we see when walking or sitting by it. When we ignore trash on the ground, we are saying that we are OK with trash on the ground, and that's not the Hughes way!
Walk, Bike, Carpool: To minimize the amount of CO2 we add to our environment as well as noise pollution from traffic, we encourage all our students to walk, bike, or carpool to school, when possible.
Join the Hughes PTA! Our goal is for our entire school community to be members!
