Whitford Catholic Primary School
Newsletter 20 - 27 June 2018
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents
It’s hard to believe that we are already at the end of another term. What a busy and very musical end we have had to the term.
Not only did we have a visit from the very talented musician and songwriter Andrew Chinn on Tuesday, but our own talent was on show in last week’s Pre-Primary to Year 2 showcase. A fantastic show was enjoyed by all.
Our Year 4-6 students must also be congratulated on their performance at the Meraki Festival.
Mural Project
This week we have also had a visit from artist Chris Nixon who, along with the input from some Year 5 and 6 students, will be working on the school’s mural project. We look forward to seeing this lovely addition to our school when we arrive back from school holidays.
Cross County
Well done to our Cross-Country team who finished fourth. I have no doubt if there was a trophy for most the most spirited school, it would be ours.
Thank You
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Miss Tahnee Golisano who is finishing her teaching practice at the end of this term. Not only has she been Mr D’Adamo’s and Mrs Clarke’s right-hand lady, but she has been a wonderful role model to all students in the school. We will miss her but look forward to her visiting our school again.
Faction Tokens
Congratulations to McCauley Faction who are the inaugural winners of the faction token system. No doubt you enjoyed your free dress and free play tomorrow. It all starts again Week 1 Term 3.
Reports
I take this opportunity to thank the class and specialist teachers for their professionalism, the inordinate amount of effort and the countless hours that they have put into preparing your child’s report. We are blessed to have such a hardworking and dedicated staff here at WCPS.
As this will be the last newsletter for Term Two, I would like to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable break. Mrs Hughes, Mrs Hales, Mrs McGougan and Mrs Stritzke will all be enjoying some well deserved extra holiday time and we look forward to seeing them all back early in Term 3.
God bless.

Acting Principal

Telstra Kids Grant
We are delighted to announce our success in applying for a $1,200 grant from Telstra. Telstra Kids helps kids thrive in their connected world. Our Telstra Kids grant will be used to for the purchase of music instruments and other equipment for use by all students of all ages at WCPS.
A huge thanks to Luke O'Donnell from Telstra, who is the referrer, for applying for the funding for us.
We are very excited to share in the million dollars the Telstra Foundation provides each year to help kids connect to a digital future.
Parking and Drive-Through
Thank you to all the parents who are using our new kiss and ride system with care and patience. Please be aware that there is no parking 2:30-3:30pm adjacent to the school oval as this is our two-way lane system leading into the school. To avoid traffic build up on Camberwarra Drive, we encourage parents to use the kiss and ride system after 2:30pm. If you are parking, please use the upper carpark. This is not a kiss and ride designated area. If you are in the Kiss and Ride, please do not mount the curb into the upper carpark as this is a safety concern.
Parents using Barradine Way to drop off or collect students are reminded to please follow the road rules including the NO STOPPING area marked in yellow and the NO STANDING areas marked with signs. Fines are currently being issued by City of Joondalup Rangers to drivers who are stopped (not even parked) in these areas.
Please follow the link below to access the map for front parking and drive through.

Dance and Drama News
Boys Dance and Girls Dance
Wow what a week! The Years 4 - 6 Boys Dance and Years 5 - 6 Girls Dance Groups performed in the first Meraki Festival at the PCEC on the 20th of June. We debuted our first Girls Dance and the new routine for the Boys Dance. The Boys and Girls together won "Most Entertaining Performance" and the Boys Dance won the "Friendship and Encouraging Award". Both groups received glowing reports from the adjudicators for their performance as well as behaviour off stage. Sponsorships and Scholarships were awarded to Luca Trainor, Niall Burke, Teisha Wornes and Grace Kane. Well Done! A huge congratulations to all the students for doing an outstanding job! A huge thank you to all of the staff that have helped out with rehearsals and coming on the night of the show, in particular Mrs Suzanne Hunt and Mrs Tonia McCaughey. Thank you to the parents for the continuous support, the parents that came and assisted us at the rehearsal, parents that helped with sequinning and of course my fabulous Parent Rep's. Proud is an understatement and Wednesday night was a truly memorable moment for the school. The groups will be performing at the Assembly this Thursday.
Dance Showcase
Our annual Junior Dance Showcase "Movie Time!" was a very entertaining and fantastic event! The students all enjoyed being on the "big stage" to perform their pieces they have been working on this term. All the students looked fabulous in their costumes. Thank you to the staff that assisted on the day and helped make the Showcase run smoothly. Thank you to the parents for the ongoing support and bringing in costumes. Congratulations to the PP-Yr 2 students for a successful Semester of Drama and Dance!!
