SHS Weekly Newsletter #8
10/13/22
Message from Mr. Mitchell
I hope that all of you are enjoying the long weekend and the sunny weather! This is a great opportunity to rest and reset for the second half of our first trimester. Enjoy yourselves, your friends, and your family!
Our staff had a wonderful Professional Development Day on Thursday connecting with each other, exploring ways to increase the rigor in our classrooms, and developing ways to enhance the clarity of learning expectations. We also spent time supporting each other through our current budget reality, and are resolved to continue to provide the exceptional education that our students receive at Sherwood High School. Our staff is amazing, and they are, along with our students, what drive the outstanding culture at our school!
We look forward to visiting with our families at conferences on Monday, Oct. 17th from 4:30-8:00pm in our upper commons/cafeteria.
Have a great weekend and Go Bowmen!
Mr. Mitchell

October Awareness Month Lesson - LGBTQ+ History Month
In September, we had a homeroom lesson celebrating Hispanic and Latino/a/e Heritage month, and this month we will be recognizing LGBTQ+ History month. The lesson will explore the history of LGBTQ+ people and significant events related to their community and their rights. Our goal for this lesson, as well as all of our awareness month lessons, is to teach students about the history, culture, experiences, and strengths of the communities that make up our nation. We recognize that our Sherwood community, like all communities, has a wide variety of perspectives and values. In these lessons, we center respect, cultivate an understanding of each other, and encourage our students to participate in creating an inclusive environment for all of our students.
If you have any questions about this lesson or would like to opt your student of the lesson, please fill out this form (click here for Spanish version of form). The lesson will be taught on October 24th, so please ensure your opt out form has been submitted by October 21st if you are choosing that option.

The Sherwood School District is conducting a community engagement process as we assess how to best meet the needs of our students and families. As part of this process, we are currently providing parents/guardians with the opportunity to complete a needs assessment survey, to provide important feedback to our district.
Information about this process was recently shared at Back to School Night events and the elementary and middle school levels; the information from those presentations can be found here.
