News From Dr. Hagens
Greetings Parents,
February has quickly come upon us and the staff at Elms Elementary School continues to work hard to ensure that your child is receiving the very best education Flushing has to offer!
Report Cards went home on January 23rd. I hope that you were pleased with your child’s progress thus far. If you have any questions about your child’s performance, please contact their teacher.
Please mark your calendars, There will be a half day of school on February 17th and closed on February 20th for Mid-Winter Break.
School will dismiss at 2:05 p.m. on February 15th for the next scheduled Early Dismissal.
Black History Month
* February is Black History Month
* Black History Month grew out of “Negro History Week”.
* Since 1976 every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month.
State Assessment
The M-Step will be administered again this year for students in grades 3rd—6th.
The M-Step will include summative assessments designed to measure student growth effectively.
English language arts and mathematics will be assessed in grades 3-6, science and social studies in grade 5.
The Spring 2023 test is not timed and will be conducted online.
The M-STEP will be facilitated beginning April 10th —May 19th.
Please begin to talk to your students about the M-STEP.
As always I expect that students will do well on the M-STEP and meet the academic benchmarks being measured by this assessment.

6th Grade Valentine's Day Skating Party
The 6th graders will have an opportunity to meet and greet other 6th graders from around the district at the annual 6th Grade Valentines Day Skating Party at Grand Blanc Rollhaven.
The Party will take place on February 14th from 9:45 -am—1:45 pm.
