Scott 6th Grade Center's Motto- "We Enter to Learn and Leave to Achieve"
What Has Been Happening in Mrs. Farley's Classes?
I hope everyone had a restful winter break and is ready to get back into action.
The week before break we were so busy. We finished our first of two myths; Ramyana Divine Loophole. The students did well with this, mythology was very different from our usual novels. We completed this story in a variety of ways; we read together, the students read independently and in small groups. We had some great discussions about how the story followed the sequence of a monomyth and deep character analysis. We also had some holiday fun making gumdrop towers, decorating cookies, and watching a movie all together. Thank you to all those who donated items for our activities.
It’s a new year and a great way to make a fresh start. We will be writing down goals and how we expect to reach to reach our specific goal. Students will also be choosing a word for the new year, and hopefully this word will remind them of their goals and give them a little motivation.
Independent Reading logs will be sent home with the students each week to encourage them to read at home. This is just for the students. I want them to become more responsible and accountable. As a class, the students will come up with the incentives to complete and turn in the logs weekly.
We will finish our reading with The Odyssey and complete our mythology unit. Please ask the students questions about what we did in class and a gentle reminder to read a home may help too.
As always thank you for your support and cooperation.

Caught Doing Good- Anahi Calvario
Officer Irizarry presented Anahi Calvario with his "Caught Doing Good" award before Winter Break. Anahi was caught being an integral part of keeping our school safe for all students. Thank you for taking a stand, Anahi, and making sure all students are safe and respected. We are proud of you!
PBIS Reminders
As we welcome our students back from Winter break this week, we will be reinforcing our Scott expectations of Respect, Ownership, Courage, Kindness and Safety. Students will be reminded of what the expectations are for following each of these traits in the various parts of our building: classrooms, bathrooms, hallways, the bus and the cafeteria.
Our students are given ROCKStar tickets when staff see them following the expectations. Students are able to purchase items from our school store on Fridays during lunch using their tickets. Staff also reward students for going "above and beyond" by giving golden tickets. Students put these tickets in a box in the main office. At the end of each month, Mrs. Lamothe pulls ten golden tickets for prizes.
We are looking forward to our quarterly reward at the end of January. We will be celebrating all the students that had no behavior referrals for the second quarter!
