Parent Communication: Information Item
Reminder: Rain / Cold Weather Plan
All K, 1, 2 students are to report to the auditorium and all 3, 4, 5 students will report to the multi-purpose room. Both spaces will be staffed with the people who are typically supervising outside. Here is the break down of where you should be:
Beth, Lori, and Maria - directing students to either the auditorium or multi-purpose room (no students should be sent to classrooms)
Margaret O'Malley and Kim - Buses
Parisa and David - Drop off
Auditorium with K, 1, 2 students -
Mandy, Lisa, Laura, Kate, and Kristine Ashford
Multi-purpose room with 3, 4, 5 -
Marianne, Carla, Rachel Lee, Michaela, Dana Brown
At 7:57, all staff should be out in their hallways to receive their students. At that time, students will be released to their classrooms. In order for this new plan to be successful, we need EVERY ADULT in the hallway to supervise the transition.

PBIS Update
Re- Teach
Re-teach will only be an option on the BIR form for level 2-5 behaviors. If administration responded to the situation, a lunch reteach does not need to be assigned. Consider lunch reteach if a behavior has passed a “level 1” classroom managed behavior. Please note, that if a student gets 2 or more re-teaches for the same behavior, we will consider other Tier 2 interventions and re-teach no longer needs to be assigned.
Tier 2 Interventions
Your PBIS Tier 2 team re-visited our entrance criteria for Tier 2 interventions. We will be looking at BIR data monthly and any student who has 3+ level 1 or 2-5 BIR's will be considered eligible for a Tier 2 intervention. Teacher referral is another option to enter Tier 2 interventions. This form will now have an option for you to select if you'd like to refer a student to CICO or SAIG. If one of your students is identified, your Tier 2 team will contact you about getting the process started. Please reach with any questions.
Tier 1 PBIS Walkthroughs
Thank you for opening your doors to your PBIS team for our Tier 1 walkthroughs. We are seeing so many amazing things and are looking forward to sharing the data with you at our next staff meeting!
TAP OUT
In order to support teachers who need an emotional break or to step away from a situation, your PBIS team is excited to start up “Tap Out”. Any teacher or staff member will call Lori to request a break. She will find an available staff member to be in your room within 5 minutes for up to a 5-minute break.
BIR FLOWCHART
In order for teachers to better understand the BIR process, we would like to share this flowchart. Your PBIS team will be explaining it in more detail at our November staff meeting. There will also be a hard copy in your mailbox.
Be Proactive - ROE visits will be here before we know it
The ROE Health/Life Safety team is scheduled to visit the district Dec. 16-18 (Monday through Wednesday). Here is a list of common violations. Be proactive and address them early.
- Excessive decorations (no more than 20% of the room can be covered)
- Furniture in egress areas and/or under stairwells
- Doorstops
- Flammable and combustible chemicals properly stored in a locked cabinet
- Room deodorizers - plugins or sprays.

Family Math Night Success
A special thank you to Kristine Ashford for helping organize and all the teachers and staff who volunteered during our Family Math Night.
Families had a lot of fun and teachers learned new math games to introduces to their classroom.
Thank you!

Resources from The National Equity Project
Each week I will share a resource that supports and reinforces our equity focus. I received a long list of resources from the National Equity Project. Rather than sending the whole list, I'll send one along each week in the weekly update.
As we continue to work on culturally responsive practices, I trust you will find something of use to continue to strengthen the tools you have in your toolbox.
This week's article -
Culturally Responsive Teaching: 4 Misconceptions
The term “culturally responsive teaching” has been around for decades, but it seems to have gotten more attention in recent years. That’s good news: With our classrooms growing more diverse every year, teachers should be more interested in how they can best teach students from different backgrounds.
