ELA Update
Currently, in ELA we are in Theme 3 - Turning Corners. Some of the skills we will be working on in this theme include: short vowels e, a, i and u, initial blends with s, l and r, and contractions with 'll. In reading we will be working on several focus skills, such as comparing and contrasting, picking out details in stories and focusing on the plot. Keep practicing those high frequency words (HFW's)...instantly recognizing these words is the key to a successful start when becoming a reader!
Math Update
Currently we are in Unit 3 - Visual Patterns, Number Patterns and Counting in math.
Skills in this unit include addition and subtraction on the number line and finding the values of dimes, nickels and pennies. Soon after Thanksgiving we will test Unit 3 and begin Unit 4 - Measurement and Basic Facts. There are lots of excellent games and resources on the EDM Online site:

*My personal favorite is Two-Fisted Penny Addition (located under challenge games). Enjoy!
Science and S.S. Update
We will be using literature to discuss families and family celebrations. The holidays are a very special time and what better way to appreciate them then by talking about FAMILY! I am asking all students to complete a family celebrations project that will be sent home in the coming week (white stapled packet). Only the last page needs to come back complete (the student writing page). Your child should complete this project with adult help and turn it in anytime before Tuesday, December 1st.
Students are also learning about the First Thanksgiving during the month of November. One of my favorite Thanksgiving books is...
Gracias: The Thanksgiving Turkey
Misc. Items
We have been discussing respecting our classroom. This means making sure we clean up after ourselves, put trash in the trashcan, use the bathroom the way it is meant to be used, take care when using school property (books, desks, chairs, etc.), etc. Please discuss these things at home as well. Your support is extremely helpful!
The weather is starting to get colder, so please make sure that your child comes to school with a warm jacket, gloves, and a hat for outdoor recess. Bundle up!
Wishing you a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving!
