AKS at Home

AKS at Home

As part of Gwinnett County Public Schools’ family engagement initiative, the school district seeks to empower parents with tools that allow them to help their children at home. Our AKS @ Home project provides math and language arts resources, for grades K-5, to support families so that they truly are partners in their children’s learning. This support is available for families to access in the format that fits them and their schedule best. They can attend live virtual meetings, view recorded information at a time that best fits their schedule, or gain tips and suggestions on how to best help their students through tip sheets on a wide variety of topics. Please, follow the links below to have access to the tools and meetings we provide.

We invite our families to attend. If you have any questions, please contact Norma Vazquez (Shiloh ES Parent Outreach Liaison) @ 770-736-2129

National School Psychology Week

During the week of November 8-12, 2021 schools throughout the United States will celebrate National School Psychology Week (NSPW) to highlight the important work school psychologists and other educators do to help all students thrive. This year's theme is "Let's Get in Gear." The theme's acronym provides a challenge to grow both personally and professionally. It encourages us to engage in best practices and advocate for children's access to mental health and learning supports. To rise implies resilience and renewal despite the challenges of the past.

Children’s Book Week

Every Child a Reader is an award-winning, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that celebrates the powerful impact books have on young people through some of the longest-running and largest reading outreach programs in the country. We believe introducing children to the magic of reading is hero’s work. We support a diverse network of heroes — including educators, caregivers, librarians, and booksellers — by connecting book creators with communities, providing literacy tools and resources, and championing young people’s voices.

The importance of parental involvement in education

Many parents mistakenly believe that their children’s education is entirely in the hands of teachers, but research solidly supports the case for parental involvement.

Research from the National Coalition for Parent Involvement in Education shares that “no matter their income or background, students with involved parents are more likely to have higher grades and test scores, attend school regularly, have better social skills, show improved behavior and adapt well to school.”
