WHPE November Update
"Better Together"
Greetings,
Let me first extend a heartfelt thanks to those of you who were among the 836 convention attendees. That is a new record for WHPE. We sincerely hope you enjoyed yourself and found the resources and connections you were expecting. If you did attend the convention, could you please take a few minutes to fill out the evaluation? The WHPE Board of Directors will look at your comments in December as we begin planning for next year. Here is the link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf7Tcj9t3ts1sBrg0GrP_zQQH0PUsfOlTTu1lxi5TsJHfKctw/viewform Plus you could WIN a FREE Convention Registration for next year if you fill it out.
If you were unable to attend the convention, head to the WHPE website and take a look at some of the presenter's handouts. You may still be able to find some valuable resources.
If you have other comments, concerns, or ideas regarding the convention, please do not hesitate to contact me. I would love to hear them. vorwald@platteville.k12.wi.us
I would also like to provide you with a quick update on our search for finding a new WHPE executive director. As you probably know, Keith Bakken is retiring and we have the opening posted now and it will remain open until December 15. At that time a search and screen committee will review the applications and arrange for interviews to take place in late January. The entire job description is available on the WHPE website and I have included part of it below.
And lastly, I would like to extend a warm welcome to Rebekah Johnson (University VP ) and Molly Dado (NW District) as new additions to your WHPE Board of Directors.
With warm regards and Happy Thanksgiving,
Maureen Vorwald, NBCT

Unified Physical Education Resources
Are you looking for a compilation of ideas and examples that teachers may use to bring the Unified Physical Education concept to their school? In the Unified Physical Education course, all students will work toward meeting the grade-level outcomes required by the school district. Unified Physical Education is a concept for bringing students with and without disabilities together, as equals, in a physical education setting where all students earn physical education credit, thus putting all students on equal footing. Unified Physical Education is not intended to solely be a training program for Special Olympics events or sports competition. Unified Physical Education is not meant to take the place of existing physical education requirements or adapted physical education, but rather be an additional inclusionary opportunity for students who choose to join the class.
