Celebrating our Students!
June 10, 2021 at 1:30pm.
This year's celebration will be on-site. However,
we have to limit the number of attendees,
and limit it to the students exiting and their families.
This is what's been happening this week with CBI...
Community-Based Instruction (CBI) is a vital instructional tool for students in our program. This instruction occurs in various community environments and provides students “real life experiences.” The goal is to provide a variety of hands-on learning opportunities that will allow our students to practice essential skills to become more independent. All activities in the community support post-secondary education, employment, life skills, and independent living goals.

The Emergency Rent and Utility Assistance Program offers to help pay past rental arrears from April 2020-March 2021, prospective rent (April-June 2021) and overdue utility payments (April 2020-March 2021).From the website:
The County’s 2021 Emergency Rental and Utilities Assistance Program (ERAP) helps eligible households in qualifying areas who have been financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The program provides payment assistance for renters who need help with rent and utilities. Applications will be accepted until funds are no longer available.
This is a great resource to help people that have been financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and we would greatly appreciate your help to get the word out. I have attached some sample flyers to this email. We have flyers in 9 different languages available in our outreach toolkit, link below.

May is Mental Health Month
Recent events in our country have motivated many youth to engage in activism in their communities, speaking out and inspiring others to take a renewed interest in the problems we face. While young people all over the country are getting involved and taking action, we can support them by reaching out, lending a listening ear, and sharing resources.
Whether they need help to heal, looking for support and connection, or simply need to be heard, trusted adults can help. Here are some ideas to engage and support the young people in your life:
- Check out the Mental Health Support Guide which is full of resources and tips on how to help others and reduce stigma.
- Encourage a school to start a NAMI on Campus club on campus next school year.
- A great starting point for anyone who is ready to start prioritizing their mental health is to take a Mental Health Test. It’s a quick, free, and confidential way for someone to assess their mental health and begin finding hope and healing.
On behalf of the SDCOE and OUSD Student Services teams:
As Mental Health Matters Month comes to a close, we hope that you’ve started conversations, shared resources, and deepened connections with those around you while sharing valuable information on mental health. As we move into Pride Month, we encourage you to check out Each Mind Matters’ resources for LGBTQ+ people. Share these resources during the month of June to show your rainbow pride and support for the LGBTQ+ community:
- Latinx LGBTQ + Immigrant Youth Provider Fact Sheet
- Be True and Be You: A Basic Guide for LGBTQ Youth
Resources for African American, Latino, Asian Pacific Islander and Native American can be found on Each Mind Matters Materials for other diverse communities.
Support mental health awareness and connect with one another throughout the month of May by using the hashtags #HopeForChange #HopeForChangeSD #MayMentalHealthMonth2021 on social media and be sure to check out some of the fun activities found on the Green Ribbon Activities.

A Year of Core Words
Core Word of the Week - different
Please help support generalization of this word by using it in
as many ways as possible. Model and give the student
chances to use the word in different contexts.
When the word is used correctly, reinforce it naturally by
completing the action.
Here is April's AT Newsletter
Please check it out! This month we are reviewing Assistive Technology Consideration (the first prompt on the Special Factors Page) and our Tool of the Month is "Speech to Text."
Have a great week!
Wear your Mask
You may have heard the recent recommendations by the California Department of Public Health changing guidelines for individuals fully vaccinated against COVID-19 when the fully vaccinated are outdoors and not at crowded places. However, the masking guidelines reman in effect in most other places including schools.
While this is encouraging (and exciting), it’s important to remember that we in San Diego County and across California are still required to comply with local health orders, which have not yet relaxed their requirements on face covering guidance for indoor settings or for schools. Until that time, all of our educational facilities will continue to adhere to state and local requirements, which continue to require the use of face coverings by all individuals while on school property.
For students who need assistance with wearing their mask, their teachers will work with them and provide the necessary accommodations to support our students' needs.
