The Way of the Wildcat

Silas Willard Newsletter-January 8, 2022

We are EXCITED to welcome back our Silas Willard Students on Tuesday, January 10th!

We hope that our Wildcat students have had a relaxing time with family and friends over the last couple of weeks. Parents, please ensure that your student is getting plenty of sleep and back into a school week routine so that they are ready to take on 2nd semester on Tuesday, January 10th! Additionally, please send your students to school with warm gear (i.e., coat, gloves, scarves, hats, etc.) as we will try to continue with outdoor recess as much as possible-pending weather. We are hopeful that our Wildcats will come to school and be ready to learn as much as possible in this second semester. We believe in all of you and are eager to see you succeed!

DETERMINATION is the continued focus of the month for January!

Determination: The Yaguar (Jaguar) is one of our Silas Willard Wildcats. The jaguar represents the incredibly important skill of demonstrating determination. For the purpose of our monthly focus in December and January we are going to define the idea of determination in the following manner:

  • Deciding to reach your goal even when it is hard

Students of the Month Celebrated with a special luncheon!

Our 1st Semester Student Growth Assembly was a SUCCESS!!

Students were able to earn a foot of tape for each assessment demonstrating individual growth from the fall to winter time period! Over 1,000 ft. of duct tape was used to make this happen! Way to go, Wildcats!

Reminders about arrival and dismissal to school:

  • Pull ALL the way up in the "U" area. Trust the process and follow the staff members' guidance in the "U" area pick-up. If a staff member is asking you to pull up or motioning for you to pull up, simply do so. We are all doing our best to get you in and out of arrival/dismissal as quickly and safely as possible.
  • Pulling up all the way through the "U" area allows us to get more cars off of Seminary St.
  • Be mindful of our crossing guards as they are doing their best to provide safe crossing for all of our Wildcats.
  • If you are exiting car and parking. Please make sure to use the sidewalks and navigate to them rather than walking through the center of the parking lot. This is dangerous and blocks traffic in the "U" area.

Be the CHANGE event, by "Give Back, Galesburg", is set to start on January 17th!

Milk Money

During our lunch times, we have students who are coming into the lunch lines just to get a milk. If a student needs to purchase milk, they must have money put on their accounts to do so. We do not give away the milk for free unless it is purchased in conjunction with a school lunch. If a student is simply wanting milk they must have money on their accounts to do so.

Thank you!
