Rocket Review

Week of December 13, 2019

One More Week!

We finished our week on Friday the 13th, with a full moon, and Holiday Shop. Our Morgan students are getting more excited about the upcoming holiday break each day. UCS has added to our break this year, with students now returning to school on Monday, January 6, 2020. This will give our students, staff, and families two full weeks to spend with family.

Morgan will be participating in Wellness Break for the holiday break. Just like our Wellness Weekend over Thanksgiving break, the Wellness Break is intended for students, families, and staff to unplug from Morgan business, relax, and focus on time with family and friends during this busy holiday season. Students will not have specific assigned homework, projects, or test study over the break.

THANK YOU to all of our parents who were able to give a few hours of their time this week to help with Holiday Shop. Our Morgan students enjoy the shopping experience, picking out special items for family members and friends. Our PTO couldn't make this successful without your help and appreciates your donation of time during this busy time of year.

Next week your child's classroom may have special activities or events prior to the start of the break. Please remember to enter Morgan through the Main Office entrance to sign in and get a Visitor's tag or sticker when visiting Morgan. If you decided to sign out your student after volunteering in the classroom, please make sure you sign out your child in the main office. Morgan will not release to family members without parent permission. If a family member volunteers and would like to take your child home, please call the office to let our staff know you have given permission for that family member to check out your child from school.

Have a great week!

UCS Calendar Update

Parents and students, please note the following change regarding the upcoming scheduled winter break. Students will be off for winter break beginning Monday, December 23, 2019 and returning to school on Monday, January 6, 2020. This provides an additional two recess days, Thursday, January 2 and Friday, January 3 from the previously released calendar. Additional dates for second semester continue to be considered and will be released once determined.

Toys for Tots Collection

Congratulations to Mrs. Angeli's Class!

THANK YOU to all who donated to our annual Toys for Tots drive! Mrs. Angeli's class brought in the most toys, with a total of 98 toys!

Altogether, Morgan donated 540 toys to Toys for Tots for the holiday! Great job, Morgan Rockets! Your generosity will help so many children around the Metro Detroit area during this holiday season.

Eisenhower NHS Tutoring

The Eisenhower National Honor Society is hosting a weekly FREE tutoring session held on Wednesday afternoons from 4-6 PM in the Eisenhower Media Center, beginning October 9.

Parents may register their students by submitting a request located on our website:

http://ikenhs.weebly.com/eagle-tutoring.html.

This will allow us to prepare adequate tutors for each subject matter. We ask that parents complete the form by Sunday night each week in order to allow us to organize the correct number of NHS students.

Their goal is to provide a safe and productive environment for both students needing help and our NHS members offering their service. Additionally, a staff member will be on site every week checking in registered students and monitoring the sessions.

Looking for Lunch Monitors!

Looking for help on Monday, Tuesday and Fridays!

Morgan Elementary is looking for help in the lunchroom! Each year, we are allowed to hire 8 adults to help supervise students on the playground and in the lunchroom throughout our lunch hour. We would like to thank our parents who have already notified us that they will be returning to join our lunchtime this year and are looking for more support!

If you would be interested in helping in the lunchroom, please fill out a lunch monitor application with EduStaff. A link to the application can be found below. You will need to create an account, enter your information, complete some online training modules, and have a background check with finger prints. Then you can work as many lunch days as you would like and be paid for your help!

Several of our lunch monitors also complete additional training in EduStaff to serve as substitute paraprofessionals in our building. If you are interested in becoming a substitute paraprofessional, please use the EduStaff application process below.

If you have questions about becoming a lunch monitor or the online process, please contact Melissa Roth in our main office at 586-797-5800.
