Dear Families,
Changes Starting April 5
Of course, the biggest story of the day is that most students will be coming to school in-person all 5 days per week starting April 5. When this occurs, there will be some adjustments in order to maintain mitigation measures. For example, we will return to eating in the cafeteria; however, students will be seated at assigned desks that are spaced 6 feet apart. Classes will go outside for their snack breaks whenever possible. All students will have their own desks in the classroom spaced 3 feet apart. Some families have asked about this particular change and may appreciate reading this study on the effectiveness of 3’ versus 6’ of social distancing. We anticipate two large tents to arrive in the coming weeks. For the most current information, please visit the district website and the Increased In-Person Learning and COVID-19 Resources page.
No School on April 1 and April 2
The district has moved the scheduled Professional Development Day of March 12 to April 1 instead to give us time for preparation for the full return. There will be no school for students on Thursday, April 1, for the PD day. Also, there is no school on Friday, April 2, for Good Friday.
Asynchronous Instruction on Wednesdays, March 24 & 31
In order to provide essential time for staff to prepare for all the changes ahead on April 5, we are providing students with asynchronous learning activities for the mornings of March 24 and 31. This means there will not be any “live” interactions with Noyes staff with our students on those days. HOWEVER, we do have an exciting whole-school event on March 24 with Bren Batclan, an artist that many students likely remember from his visits to our school in 2019. Stay tuned for more details.
Pool Testing
We are thrilled that this week’s results were all negative again. We currently have approximately 70% of our students participating in pool testing, as well as the majority of staff. We will continue doing free, weekly pool testing on Mondays and Tuesdays for all who have registered with results expected within 24-48 hours. It’s not too late to register your child to participate and we’d love to have as many as possible on board.
Click here to give permission for your child(ren) to participate in pool testing.
Parent Conferences
The teachers look forward to meeting with you this month for parent conferences. The focus of these meetings is your child’s progress. Please know that teachers cannot take requests regarding class placement for next year. Honestly, we are so focused on the full-return that we cannot even think about class placement right now, so thank you for not even bringing it up. Parent Placement letters will not go out until after April vacation week.
Warmly,
Annette Doyle
She's Coming!
We are so excited to be matched with our classroom assistance dog! Mrs. Moffat leaves for training Sunday, March 14th. Watch for a video from Mrs. Moffat next week sharing her name and a little about her. On March 23rd, she will join the Peter Noyes staff full-time!
If your child is allergic to dogs, please reach out to Mrs. Moffat at: Kristin_Moffat@sudbury.k12.ma.us. She would like to reach out to you to share and collaborate on our plan.
Thank you!
