Bobcat Bulletin
Week of February 15th
From the Desk of Mrs. Schmid
Hello Bobcat Families,
Happy Valentine's Day and Chinese New Year (12th!)! As many of our districts surrounding do not have school tomorrow, February 15th, due to President's Day, we DO have school tomorrow. We are looking forward to engaging with your child for our usual Monday remote schedule.
As we get into a routine with our new hybrid schedule, I encourage you to continue connecting in a partnership with your child's teacher if you have any concerns. This should always be our first place to start as they have the best insight into the daily schedule, instruction, and needs of your child. We greatly appreciate the grace and patience you have continued to offer throughout this school year. Since our winter assessments are complete, students started in new instructional groupings this past week which resulted in new schedules for some of our students during our "W.I.N." (What I need) time. Every new schedule change brings new pivots, learnings, and shifts for our staff. I commend them all greatly for continuing to "roll with" the many changes that have come their way this year in an effort to best serve our students.
Today is the final day to submit a recipe to the Brookdale Cookbook! Details are below. Be a part of a historic cookbook that is sure to be around for many generations to come! I cannot wait to get my copy and try some of your delicious recipes!
Thank you to our PTA classroom coordinators and Mrs. Beth Lynn Norton for their incredible hard work in putting together our final party for the year: the friendship party! We greatly appreciate ALL the work they did throughout this unprecedented year to keep the traditions alive for the students. Regardless of the change in platform, they kept the spirit of the parties alive for the students and fun was had by all---thank you!
In the spirit of love...THANK YOU will never be enough to express our appreciation for your partnership this school year. We will continue working tirelessly to meet the needs of our learners, learning from our experiences, and pushing ourselves to be the absolute best for your children! In a time when we have had to find creative ways to connect and spread love... sending Brookdale love to you all (insert the heart hand symbol taught to me by our kindergartners!)!
Respectfully,
Keeley Schmid

Self-Certification: In-Person Learners
Thank you for getting into a routine each day to ensure your child is self-certified. Getting them certified means they do not lose instructional time to get self-certified by our nurse.
Need to reference information regarding in-person learning, including a map of the school? Here is our page, which is dedicated to in-person learning details.
Yearbook/School Portraits
Never fear, our amazing PTA is here with a backup plan just in case! Thank you to chairperson Ms. Annie Nell for all her creative thinking and problem solving to ensure the yearbook still remains an important treasure in an unprecedented year! Please see the information below:
WE NEED YOUR YEARBOOK PORTAITS!
At this time, we are unsure if HR Imaging will be allowed on campus to take portraits this year. As the yearbook committee moves forward to create a yearbook, we are asking ALL parents to please send in a photo of their student(s). Please see the linked flyer to see how easy this can be done and some helpful tips on how to take a great picture. Any questions, please email brookdaleyearbook@gmail.com
Picture Ideas!
- First Day of School – Doesn’t matter how many first days we have had, send them all.
- Facemask Fashion – Show off your style! Have your student wear their favorite mask, snap a pic and email it to us.

Calling All Brainiacs!
Brookdale Brainiacs is an annual tradition of STEAM-inspired projects where the creators are our very own students!
Typically they work on these optional projects for the first two weeks of February, then bring them to school for an open house exhibit that we all get to enjoy. This year, we’re doing things a little differently. Students are encouraged to show off a STEAM project that they made at home using Flipgrid. They can tell us all about their passion project in their recorded video – is it an art or writing project? A science experiment? Custom LEGO build? Machine or invention? Cardboard creation? Research poster? We want to see it! Bonus: your student’s project COULD get shared during morning announcements during the week of February 15-19!
Need inspiration? Here’s a look at what some past projects have looked like.
