"If They Had Known" Community Showing

On Tuesday December 3, 2019 the Plymouth Youth Development Collaborative will be hosting a community showing of If They Had Known at Plymouth South High School in the Performing Arts Center. This 30-minute documentary focuses on the risk of current party culture and works to educate students on the dangers associated with substance use. All are welcome.

Fall Fun at PECC

This week we had middle school greeters as the preschoolers came in. The middle schoolers are from the Gemini wing at PCIS and were recognized for their kindness. They definitely spread some kindness to our little preschoolers each morning. Miss Jen our physical therapist put together a fun motor activity outside for the kids. The kids first raked up all the leaves into a big pile. Then they took turns jumping in the pile, followed by laying down and taking some deep breath’s to calm back down after all the excitement. In MissJamie’s room students made beautiful fall trees with their handprints and painted puzzle pieces. Happy fall!

The Leader in Me Student Lighthouse Beautification Project

As part of a Leader In Me School, Cold Spring has been working to beautify the building with positive messages to promote leadership. The Student Lighthouse Team has been working over the past few weeks to paint these motivating quotes onto the walls.

Books and Breakfast

We love to share what kids are doing, but did you know that our SES teachers never stop learning and adding to their own classroom libraries?

This morning 4th and 5th grade teachers kicked off their Friday with 'Books and Breakfast', perusing new texts to use with the topics in our social studies units of study!

Visitors Embrace Technology

The tech ed rooms at PSMS were buzzing with activity on Wednesday. Twenty-eight middle school students from the Collegio San Carlo in Milan, their four teachers, and four tech ed teachers from Plymouth middle schools spent the day exploring technology.

One activity was using ozobots, which are tiny programmable robots, to follow a hand-drawn maze and to knock down bowling pins. Then the ozogroove app was used on an iPad - imagine ozobots at a dance party!

Lego Mindstorms kits were used to build and program larger robots to move across the floor, pick up a tube, and take it back to where it started from.

Hand tools were used to build a mousetrap car with CDs for wheels. After assembly was complete, the car was tested to see how far it would travel. Tweaks could be made to the car to try to increase the distance.

Lastly, there was an augmented reality station where students, using iPads, could see and walk around 3D objects as if they were physically in the classroom. Students also used the iPads to go on an AR scavenger hunt. Students at this station also built creations to hover in the KODO wind tube.

Ilaria’s favorite activity was the mousetrap car. She said it was fun to make, she got to use a drill, and her group came in 2nd place! Carola liked the ozobots best; by drawing colored lines in a certain order, she could make them go faster, slower, or turn like a tornado.

Art Show at Pine Hills

Students’ art work from Plymouth North was entered into the Art Show at the Pine Hills. There were 3 awards given out and North students Kady Whynott won second place and Jillian Webster received honorable mention and was recognized for their work. 4/5 students were able to attend, their work was phenomenal, and it was very well received! Congratulations!

DECA Day on the Hill

Plymouth South students attended DECA Day on the Hill at the State House alongside other Mass DECA chapters. The event stressed the importance of working relationships with elected government officials, and Plymouth South DECA was presented a citation by Mathew Muratore for "The commitment and success of the students and advisors of the Plymouth South High School DECA Program in preparing emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management." We then sat in on the House of Representatives debate that ended in a nation-leading vote banning flavored tobacco products on Wednesday.
