The Gator Gazette

Gator Greetings
This week, we practiced two of our emergency drills. We had a Fire Drill on Monday morning, and the students did an excellent job getting in and out of the building quickly and quietly. Today we practiced a Lock Down Drill where the students stay in their classrooms quietly with the lights off and the doors locked. They did a great job with this drill as well and I was able to come over the announcements to tell the school that the drill went well and was just for practice. If your child comes home to tell you about one of these drills, you can share that they are not intended to be scary but are an important practice for our school to stay safe. We also continue to reinforce the important for voice level zero (which means silence) in the hallway so students can hear directions. A level zero also provides for a productive learning environment inside classrooms while other students are traveling in the hallway.
Today marks the first day of October! The value of the month for October is RESPECT. Students demonstrating respect throughout the school can earn Gator Gold. Every week we list the students who have received a Gator Gold at the end of the Gazette, so be sure to look out for your child’s name! We also draw Gator Gold winners each Monday on morning announcements and these students are invited to come down to the office to choose a prize out of the treasure chest. At Allisonville, we are constantly looking for ways to reinforce positive behavior and praise students for making good choices. Thank you for reinforcing this at home as well.
Next week will be the last week of the first quarter. We will end the week with Fall Parties at 2:30 on Friday, October 8th. Thank you to PTO for sponsoring Fall Parties. This is a fun way to celebrate the end of the quarter, and also the start of Fall Break, which is October 11-15. Also next week, we will have a Gator Jam for grades K-1 on Thursday, October 7 from 3:30-4:30 outside around the track. We are looking forward to another great week of teaching and learning at Allisonville.

Parent - Caregiver Education Series
The District Equity Leadership Team (DELT) initiated a Parent-Caregiver Education Series last year to explore issues of equity in education. Click here for the flyer: Parent Caregiver Flyer Equity is the concept of giving students what they need to thrive within school systems. Each student has unique strengths, gifts, and different lived experiences that we have to be mindful of when trying to support academic and social emotional needs. We also recognize that families need tools and support to help their children succeed, and spaces for shared learning to understand how schools are promoting equitable practices.
The next webinar, Understanding Special Education and Parents’ Procedural Safeguards, is Thursday October 7, 2021 from 6:00-7:00pm. This will be presented by Dr. Ghirmay Alazar, Washington Township’s Director of Student Services (Dr. Alazar Bio). Make sure to sign up. Do not forget to follow the MSDWT Equity social media pages, on Facebook and Twitter. We look forward to this upcoming conversation! Our Office of Multilingual Learners can also support with linguistic needs. Please talk to the Assistant to the Director of Equity and Inclusion, Ms. Andre Badue at abadue@msdwt.k12.in.us, if you have any questions.
