We're almost there -- the first day of school!

In this newsletter, you'll find a handful (maybe two handfuls) of helpful hints to make the first day of school a successful experience for you and your child.

• Send your child with a full water bottle - It is expected to be quite hot tomorrow. Our water filling stations will be available to refill bottles and teachers will encourage students to refill their bottles.
• Walk to school - Traffic always becomes snarled as all of our students make their way through the neighborhood streets to school each day. Take a few minutes to start your morning with a family "walk and talk". If you choose to drive, please allow plenty of time and be kind to our neighbors.
• Be safe - Please do not jaywalk in the middle of the block. Take a few extra minutes to walk to the corner where it is safe and drivers are more alert to student movement.
• Be careful when crossing the street - There should be a crossing guard at the corner of Westchester and Blossom Valley. Please note that we will no longer have a crossing guard at Blossom Wood.
• The Kindergarten parking lot is closed - Please do not park nor drive through this area. It is frequently used by families (and small children) who are walking to the campus. We've had more than one close call. You can expect those gates to be locked, but even if they are accidentally open, please do not drive through the parking lot.
  

• Updated Driveway Guidelines - For the safety of our students, we are changing driveway and sidewalk guidelines for those walking onto campus. The loading zone (front circle) in the parking lot is busy with vehicle traffic before and after school. This makes the driveways a potential hazard for students. Rather than crossing the driveways, students are to walk AROUND the loading zone (front circle) and may not cross at the entrance or exit driveways. The picture below illustrates the walkway students should take as they arrive and depart school. It also includes two 🚫symbols where the driveway is closed to students.

After dropping off your child, please join us in the cafeteria for an informal coffee social. Enjoy a cup of coffee and conversation with old friends, as well as welcoming our new Alta Vista families.

We are currently understaffed for our lunch time yard duties. We would love to have additional hands on deck to help with supervision of the playground and lunch tables.

The Food Services staff is excited to share that for the 2023-2024 school year, all meals will continue to be free of charge. You can find the breakfast and lunch menu for the month by clicking HERE.
