Staff Update

How do I arrange a personal day?
2. She will check the calendar. As long as there aren't already too many people out on that day, you'll receive your day.
3. Erika will send you a calendar invite for a Personal Day. This is your cue to arrange your sub. Please pre-arrange subs whenever possible or schedule far in advance to give us a better chance of having a sub while you are out.
What is Genius Hour?
Sometimes this does result in a project. Many times it does not. There is no action, only learning and research.
Many of our kiddos interpreted Genius Hour as Service Learning Project Time. The two are very different. We are not implementing any service projects at Ballyshannon currently other than the Go Pantry BCEA collection. If you would like to organize a collection for our school, please put it in this file. We will evaluate all of the submissions and let you know which are a go.
Stacie has created a video for the students to tell them more about Genius Hour and hopefully get them back on the right track.

Recovery and Grades
In Notes, enter assignment name.
- When the student turns the work into the Recovery monitor/principal, we will take them off the Recovery list for you and then put the work in your mailbox.
- If it is a Canvas assignment we'll check that they have completed it and then remove them.
- If the work is not completed to your satisfaction, put the student back on the list by adding a Missing Assignment again.
Canvas should have a record of all of your daily grades.
- Mark complete/complete if just practice toward mastery.
- Mark 1-4 with half points if assessing for mastery.
Infinite Campus should have a record of the student's progress toward mastery of standards.
- Record grades as students take assessments that lead toward mastery.
- Update each category for your course once a month for the first half of the year. Twice a month beginning in January.
Curriculum Night Next Wednesday
- We have purchased nice folders for the parents.
- We will be printing items and putting them in the folder (daily schedule, yearlong calendar, Kickboard/Canvas/IC overview--if you think of other items you want in the folder, please let us know)
- We encourage you to provide handouts for parents as well. They can stick them in their Curriculum Night folder and refer back during the year.
Progress Toward Mastery
In your classroom, if 80% of your kids have not mastered a concept, it's a Tier 1 issue...not an intervention issue. You need to tighten up your core instruction. This should not be new news. This is the basic tenet of RTI.
Similarly, if 80% of our kids are not proficient in reading or math, we have a Tier 1/Core Instruction issue to address. No schools in Boone County have 80% at proficiency, but we will be the first.
READING
From 73% Proficient/Distinguished in Reading to 80% Proficient/Distinguished by May 2019.
MATH
From 66% Proficient/Distinguished in Math to 80% Proficient/Distinguished by May 2019.
I was also asked to select lead measures (which you will soon learn about). I selected lead measures we already intended to put in place this year that correspond with Hattie's high yield practices. However, they are not set in stone. We'll work through them and add if you want to add and take away if you want to take away.
I believe to my core we can hit the 80% this year. Together.
I've also been looking at our kids fall Star and comparing them to their K-Prep from the spring. We have some BIG discrepancies with some kids. Any child that dropped two levels or more from K-Prep to Star will retest. I'll address this with the personally and alert you as well. They will take their mastery assessments seriously at our school so we know whether or not our instructional practices are working.
