Student Engagement: An important Part of the Planning and Instructional Process
A couple of weeks ago, I started reflecting on my own engagement during learning times. My learning times takes place primarily in meetings and sometimes that can be tough. I honestly zone in and out depending on the presenter and relevance of the topic to my work. For our students being in a classroom can at times feel very much like being in a long drawn out meeting. It is important that we plan for how we will engage them as we are instructing. Student engagement can be an overlooked part of instruction. Sometimes we think because students are quiet and listening that they are engaged. This is compliance! I am sure that many of you have interesting ways of engaging your students. Below are a few and I challenge you to make this a top priority in your planning and instructional delivery!
Capitalize on What Kids Love! Minecraft
Below is a link to an interesting blog that talks about a dad that decided to write books that were inspired by Minecraft. Well, I know from my mom experiences that kids love Minecraft. I wonder how many of them could turn their love and experience with Minecraft into some really solid writing. Just food for thought. I hope the blog generates some new ideas or new ways of thinking.
