President's Update
With only seventeen school days left in the 2017-18 school year, I'm sure that everyone's calendar is filling up fast with year end events and summer time activities. With the focus being on the close of this school year, it's not easy to start thinking about the 2018-19 school year, however, the PTO is working hard to solidify next year's calendar now.
In addition to raising money for McKinley Elementary, one of the most important elements of the PTO is our volunteers. Without volunteers to lead and run our PTO sponsored events and activities throughout the school year, these opportunities would not exist. With that in mind, we are in need of Chairs for the following PTO Committees for the 2018-19 school year (please note that if we are unable to fill the positions listed below, these events will not happen during the 2018-19 school year):
- Adult Social
- Book Fair (Co Chair)
- Composting/Green Team
- Family Fun Night
- Game Night
- Sock Hop (Co Chair)
Our goal is to fill each Committee with at least two Co Chairs, so recruit a friend (or more) to join you in leading a PTO Committee next year!
Have a great week,

We offer this special night for all those who were touched by Claire Denson's remarkable life and wish to create a positive keepsake. Participants will use purple remembrance ribbons and other fabric strips to create a wreath for their family home. Each person grieves in their own unique way. It's our hope that this event might foster healing in our Wauwatosa community and in families who choose to attend.

9th Annual Bike To School Recap
McKinley students did not let the rain dampen their spirits for bike to school day. Over 25 new helmets were given out and other's checked for fit. If you missed the helmet fitting because of the weather, please notify the office and we will arrange to have your child fitted for a helmet. The Wauwatosa Police Dept. registered 7 bikes. Registering bikes is important in recovery if they are lost or stolen. Registration is free and can be done at the Police Station or Johnson's bike shop.
Unfortunately, we did have to cancel the bike train due to the thunderstorm. Thank you to parent Bill Koch and the volunteers from 2 local bike groups he had lined up to help. Vince Hanoski from Ben's Cycle shop came but there were no bikes to check. Students had learned important bike safety lessons and the ABC Quick Bike check from last week's PBIS assembly presented by the McKinley Messengers. Be sure to ask them about it or look it up at: Let's Go Biking! Lesson 1: Get Ready to Ride
A special thank you to Mayor Kathy Ehley, Alderwoman Kelly Rifelj, Mrs. Hoffmann, Mrs. Millicovsky, the McKinley Messengers, Jeff Roznowski, Heidi Engbring, Bridgett Schmitt, James Watters, Megan Hambrook, Kristin Marlier, and A.J. Grove.
Corey Double Boldt, Powers Realty supplied prizes for coloring contest winners and treats on Bike to School morning. Pictures are outside the gym. Winners were: JK / Isaac Wurzburger; SK / Sarah Czukas; 1st grade / Clark Holup; 2nd grade / Sammie Czukas; 3rd grade/ Kaia Kunz; 4th grade / Amanda Neikirk and 5th grade/ Stefan Marik.
Other news: All second grade students had fun riding bikes in Mrs. Millicovsky's gym class the last 2 weeks. The bikes and helmets were awarded to McKinley last year after Bike to School Day from the National Center for Safe Routes to School. Students had a great time riding the bikes, and learned important bike safety lessons and importance of a properly fitted helmet.
