Hi Alex! and a big Welcome to Haley in 4th Grade.
English Class Notes
We welcome our new classmates
3rd Grade - Miliyana
4th Grade - Andrea, Haley, & Henry
English Class
Religion - We have such a wonderful opportunity this year to really delve into the Bible. The school has purchased for us hardbound "Catholic Children's Bible" and we have some stories to focus on this year but the children will see that it is FULL of wonderful stories about Our Lord. Activity sheets about what we read will go home at least once a week.
There is also a list of prayers that the children should start learning 'by heart'. I want that small booklet going back and forth from school to home until it is truly memorized.
Parents: if you want your child to be baptized or receive instructions for First Communion please let me know so that I may pass the information on to Mrs. Holguin for she will be in charge this year for Holy Eucharist.
Math - We are now going to Math class by groups. Those children who did not receive Math in Spanish last year are now in a class where the language is spoken. It is the goal to have our children well versed in both languages.
My group will be focusing on counting up to the hundred thousands - identifying the number by written standard form, spelling the number word and expanded form. All three groups are learning the same concepts but now some have lessons in Spanish or English.
The children will be using 'Holey' cards to improve their computation skills . It is a challenge to themselves and not to anyone else.
Social Studies - Fourth Grade will be using a new style of learning. A 'newspaper' each week will be passed out and discussed. Then the children may take it home to read further. Each Weekly Newspaper will have a Take Home paper. 4th will focused on the state of Washington.
Third Grade will be using textbooks. We read and discuss and make notes then write Vocabulary. The notebook will be transferring back and forth because they will receive Social Studies also in Spanish.
Becoming Naomi Leon is the paperback we are reading aloud. After reading and discussing the story there will be a short quiz. This supplements the Journeys Reading textbook.
Each grade will still have 'Journeys' as their Reading textbook. Activity sheets should be going home on skills we are pulling out from this.
Scholastic Book Club
If you are going to purchase books from Scholastic you have to write a check out to the Book Club. Do not write checks out to Holy Rosary or to me please. I will only accept checks NO cash.
We would like to thank our parents who have volunteered to be "ROOM Parents"- Mrs. Cordero and Ms. Bridget Yaden-Smith.
Good Luck to those students who have joined up for Cross Country. Go Hawks!!
