SC Ready State Assessment
Students in grades 3-8 will be assessed this spring using a new state assessment called SC Ready. Information about this test is slowly trickling in, but in the last month, we have learned the following:
- The test is not timed.
- Reidville students will take all parts of the test online. They will be tested in reading, writing, and math.
- The writing prompt will consist of reading a passage or multiple passages and requires a responding to a question(s) using evidence from the text to explain, support, etc.
- Some of the multiple choice questions can contain up to 6 answers, with more than one being correct. If the student does not get all of the correct answers in that question, they will not get partial credit.
So as you can see, in some ways this assessment will be much different than any test they have taken. The good news is we are all in this together! Our school and district administration is doing everything they can to help us prepare by sending us information as soon as they receive it from the state department and by finding ways to help us practice with the children.

Weather in ELA?
That was one of the questions asked when I told the kids we were going to learn about the weather pattern called El Nino. Who knew we can combine science and reading? The students were given four articles, and working as a class and as partners, they scoured the articles to learn more about the cause and effects of El Nino. Then we were very lucky to have Kathryn's mom, Mrs. Christy Henderson of Channel 7 News / Weather, agree to come answer our questions and share more information!
