November 2019 Update
Informational Writing Unit: Teen Activism
We have been busy working on research-based informational writing! Most importantly, we have been studying activism and learning about many important teen activists who are changing our world!
Week one focused on how we study a topic as a writer. We learn with a pencil in hand. We not only take in information, but also put out responses to the information. Here are a few skills we have already learned and upcoming highlights....
- jotting notes to capture information
- power learning and note-taking
- note-taking with a text set and video
- asking questions as we research...to guide our research
- drafting chapter book titles
- drafting (an informational chapter book)
- writing a thesis
- creating a research trail
- informational text structures
- increasing sentence complexity
- annotating chapters for information
Check out some of our wonderful drafting and thinking! As always, feel free to ask your child to bring home their notebook to share what we are writing about in class!
Our final informational writing of this unit will be an informational book! Students are busy drafting their chapters and soon we will begin crafting our digital book.
