Information for families during school closure
Message from Mrs. Haugen
The days until our school year comes to an end are quickly approaching. Teachers are gathering student belongings and organizing things for handing out to families. Pleas see the information below about HOW this process will work to safety and efficiency.
If students are still interested in summer school, you have until May 22nd to register. our students in grades 1-5 will have a National Parks theme with different virtual field trips, science experiments, as well as math and reading practice. If you have any questions, please talk to your child's classroom teacher.
What a crazy reality this has been since mid-March! Not at all what we planned for the end of our 2019-20 school year. Thank you for all your work at home to support students while you also work and take care of all the things necessary to keep a home going! We need each other, working as a team, to see our kids come out of this successfully. If you need more assistance or support, please reach out and let's see what we can do to help!
Please know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers!
Mrs. Haugen, Principal
Student Belonging Pick-Up
We have created a schedule based on student last names to help with organization and reduce wait time for families. We will use this time to collect library books, collect chromebooks and chargers for students who are not returning to our school district, and to transfer student belongings.
We will have 2 stations set up at the front curb, along Hough Park Road.
Station 1 - Drop Off Station
Be prepared to hand off
library books (students brought home up to 5 books checked out from the library)
chromebooks/chargers (if your child is NOT returning to Jefferson City schools)
Orchestra instrument (if 5th grader who is NOT continuing orchestra in middle school)
Station 2 - Pick Up Station
Be prepared to accept
Bag of student belongings and artwork
PTO ordered items - popcorn gift cards
We will have staff at each station with appropriate protective equipment for your safety and the safety of our staff. Families are to remain in the vehicle as they progress through our system.
It is important that adults who are coming to return and collect items are free of fever, cough, shortness of breath and have not had recent contact with someone known to have coronavirus. We are exercising the same expectations with staff who are participating in return and collection of materials.
Again, we hope all is well with your family. Thank you for your help with the transfer of materials between home and school by following the process outlined above. We would welcome waving students through car windows during the process!
Summer School Information
We are excited about the opportunity to provide a virtual summer school during the month of June. Although we have miss our students dearly and are disappointed we cannot have in-seat summer school, the Launch virtual program we will be using has a rigorous curriculum that is aligned to the Missouri Learning Standards. It is currently used by 270 districts and almost 600,000 students across the State of Missouri. We are confident the learning opportunities provided this summer will meet the various needs of our students.
You have likely received a letter by now from the District which provides a general overview of Summer School Enrollment. Within that letter is a link to a web page on our District website that provides a link to the Launch course catalog, a link to the Launch enrollment form, and links to relevant Launch materials. We hope this information will help guide you and answer any questions you may have. Additionally, we have provided a summary below for each grade span for your convenience.

Grab 'N Go Meals
JC Schools is offering breakfast, lunch AND dinner to students ages 2-18 during the extended school closure.
There are two ways for students to get meals -- Grab 'N Go/Drive-Thru Meals at various school locations OR at bus stops.
For the bus stop option, nine buses will run routes with multiple stops on Monday-Friday. Bus stops are not school specific, but rather designed regionally to include as many high-need areas as possible. The menu will be the same for Grab 'N Go and Bus Stop meals. Please see the flyer linked below for more information.
- First Student drivers will be delivering meals to stops all across the district at designated times between 10:00AM-1:00PM, MON-FRI.
- Families can pick up meals at ANY bus stop, regardless of where your student attends school. Bus stops are not school specific, but rather designed regionally to include as many high-need areas as possible.
- Grab’N’Go Meals will still be available for pick-up MON-FRI from 11:30AM-1:00PM at the eight school locations (East, North, Pioneer Trail, South, and Thorpe elementary schools; and Lewis & Clark and Thomas Jefferson middle schools).
- Federal regulations require that students must be present in order to obtain meals.
- Meals are available for all students, ages 2-18.
