East Elementary Parent Update
October 2021
Drop Off and Pick Up
Drop Off:
- Please pull up as far as you are able along the curb. We have limited space, so pulling forward allows more cars to easily get in.
- It's tempting to wait at the curb until the bell rings but that really slows down our traffic. Let your student out of the vehicle once you are stopped and send them off to a great day.
- If you need to speak with the office, you need to park in the diagonal parking or at the Early Childhood Center. The lane in front of the building is a drop-off lane, it is not for parking.
- Students only in the morning lines. We ask that you don't join your child in the line. Please let the students move into their classroom line on their own as it is helping them build independence. We have grown-ups outside to help if someone gets confused.
Pick Up:
- Dismissal does not happen until 3 pm. I know the parking is tight, but unless you need to pick your child up early for an appointment, please don't arrive much before 3.
- When pulling up to the curb, please pull as far forward as possible to allow others to fit in.
- We ask that you walk across the street to meet your student if you are in the ECC parking lot rather than have them cross to you.
- Use the crosswalk rather than walking through the cars in the street. We want to encourage students to use safe habits when crossing the road.
- If you need to speak with your child's teacher please make an appointment rather than bringing it up during dismissal. It can be difficult to give you their attention while watching to be sure that all the children are safely leaving the grounds.
Lunch News
This year we are once again able to provide school meals to students for free. This includes both breakfast and lunch. However, if your child opts to bring cold lunch and needs milk, their lunch account will be charged $0.40. If you have questions, please reach out to Annette Harbaugh, Food Service Director.
Attendance Matters
- East Elementary School Starts at 8:15 AM. Dismissal starts at 3:00 P.M.
- Breakfast hours at East Elementary 7:30 - 8:10 AM
- Regular attendance and being on time are both things that help your child have a good attitude toward school.
- Absences and tardiness can be upsetting for our youngters. Both disrupt their schedules, require readjustment to the class routine, and slow down learning.
- Students are also encouraged to remain in school for the entire school day. Important announcements and instruction are given throughout the day.
- Students will be counted absent on-half day if they arrive after 9:15 AM or if they leave school before 2:00 PM.
Tardy
- All students should be in their classroom when the final bell rings at 8:15 AM
- Your student will need to check in with the office if they arrive after the 8:15 AM bell
Absences
- It is very important to notify the office as soon as you know your student will be absent. Please call the East office at 334-7425 by 8:45 AM
- East Elementary will call all unverified absences to make sure all students are accounted for each day. You may also receive an automated phone call reporting your child's absence and asking you to call into the office.
- Any absence not excused by a physician, school nurse, or building principal shall be considered an unexcused absence or truancy. If unexcused absences become an ongoing concern for a student, the following action will take place:
- 10 unexcused absences = letter sent to parents
- 15 unexcused absences = problem-solving meeting held with parent, principal, and truancy officer
- 18 unexcused absences = referral to the county attorney
Dress for the Weather
Though it makes me a little sad to say, winter is just around the corner. During the winter months, students do go outside for recess unless the temperature or wind chill is below 0. It is important that they dress appropriately. Students at East Elementary are expected to wear coats, snow pants, hats, gloves, and winter boots. Now would be a great time to double-check the winter gear to make sure that students have boots and snow pants that fit before the snow starts to fly.
