Ridgeview's Fall RFF Days
Learn about how Ridgeview is using 2017-18 RFF days
A Letter to our School Community
Dear Ridgeview Family,
This newsletter is to report out on our Fall RFF days. Our School Governance Council (SGC) designated these days as student holidays to provide our teachers with time to perfect our craft. During RFF days, teachers receive training aligned to our school's key initiatives and we collaborate within and across grade levels.
RFF days provide very valuable time for teachers improve together as professionals. With input from our teachers, a teacher committee designs these days to create opportunities to improve as individuals so that our students receive excellent instruction. The 2017-2018 RFF Days are focused on building our capacity to deliver our International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program, to refine the use of personalized learning teaching techniques, and to deliver innovative literacy strategies school-wide.
As you will see, these days are packed with lots of learning for teachers and staff. Hope you enjoy!
Sincerely,
The RCS Professional Learning Committee

RFF Days & IB-Middle Years Program Development
On October 4th and 5th the district flew in IB consultants to support the development of IB MYP units and interdisciplinary unit plans. Under guidance from nationally recognized content area IB experts, teachers collaboratively refined existing units and developed new interdisciplinary units.
Teachers developed deeper understanding of IB units of instruction. Teachers receiving offical IB training for the first time learned the basics of delivering the MYP inquiry-based curriculum and were guided through the IB inquiry framework. Our experienced teachers attended an interdisciplinary unit planning workshop, and they collaborated across content areas to develop and refine interdisciplinary units of study.

RFF Day & Personalizing Learning Pedagogy
The November 1st RFF day set aside time for teachers to develop techniques and skills associated with delivering personalized learning. Teachers met in an Education Camp (Ed Camp) setting to ask questions, learn about new iPad based applications, and develop knowledge and skills to differentiate instruction for students. This sort of collaboration sharpened the skills and expertise needed to use iPad-related tools to flexibly pace instruction, vary strategies, and offer a wider array of choice for students to demonstrate learning.
