Principal's Message
As the school year comes to an end it is a great time to reflect on what an outstanding year this has been. Our school is a wonderful place of learning and I am proud of the achievements our students make.
Last week we held our Thank You Morning Tea for all the volunteers that have supported our school. We have many family and community members who volunteer their time to support us all. We also gave special thanks to Mrs Betty Simpson who is retiring after over 30 years as a Scripture teacher at Liverpool Public School. Thank you to all our volunteers.
This year we say goodbye to a number of teachers.
Miss Fatrouni has been successful through merit selection and takes up a new position at
Bayanami Public School next year. Ms Gonzales will be moving to England to take up a position teaching in London. Mrs Grace, Miss Templeton, Miss Alsalti, Ms Petkovic, Mr Vourantonis, Miss Hanemann, Mrs Purcell and Miss Pomeroy are all moving on to new schools and experiences. We wish you all the best and thank you for your positive impact on our community!
Don’t forget to let the school office know if your child will not be returning to Liverpool Public School next year. If you are planning on travelling over the summer holiday and may miss the beginning of the new school year please make sure you give the school office details of your travel arrangements and a copy of your flight itinerary before the end of the school year.
To all our students, families and staff, have a wonderful Christmas and New Year, and enjoy the summer break!
Yours sincerely,
Mr Ian Tapuska
Principal
Term 4 Book Awards
Congratulations!
From the classroom - 2Y and Miss Templeton
In 2Y students have been learning a wide range of skills across English, mathematics, science and creative arts. In English students have looking at the imaginative writing using a forest from a range of quality stories to compose their writing. Students created their own character using materials and then described their character’s appearance and personality using noun groups.
In mathematics students have been learning about place value and investigated using hands on materials. They started with introducing the origin of place value and how we use place value to count more efficiently. They have been using MAB blocks and place value mats to find the standard and non-standard place value of numbers.
Kindergarten 2020 Enrolments
We are now taking enrolments for Kindergarten 2020. If you or someone you know have a child who turns 5 before 31 July 2020 they are eligible to start kindergarten in January 2020. Come and see our friendly office staff to complete your enrolment form and to get information about our Kindergarten Transition to School program.
From the Deputy Principals - Mrs Alfaro and Mrs Vajdevski
Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you Morning Tea
It was lovely to see so many volunteers at our Thank You Morning Tea last Friday morning. We appreciate all that you do to support the students at Liverpool PS. We would also like to wish Mrs Simpson all the best in her retirement. Mrs Simpson has finished up her Scripture work at Liverpool PS where she has dedicated her time for the last 30 years.
School Uniform
At Liverpool Public School students are expected to wear full school uniform to develop a sense of belonging. This includes black school shoes and a school hat. If students are not wearing full school uniform they will not be able to participate in school activities, including excursions.
When purchasing school uniforms and school shoes for the commencement of the 2020 school year, please ensure to buy the correct school uniform. Each child is required to wear the full school uniform to school each and every day. We are part of the Liverpool Public School team. Let’s wear our colours with pride. Below are photos which show the correct school uniform and shoes and incorrect shoes.
It is important that all pieces of school uniform are labelled with your child's name so that they can be returned if lost. When labelling items please make sure that names are written inside the item.
See below for our full school uniform.
End of Year Activities
Students will be finishing the school year with lots of fun events. We have students going to the cinemas, museum and Blaxland Park. Please ensure to be at school on time on the day of your child's planned event.
Semester 2 Student reports
Teachers have been busily working on writing your child’s end of year report. Student reports for Semester two learning progress will be sent home Friday 13 December. Please congratulate your child on their efforts during the semester in each key learning area.
Leaving or Returning Back to School 2020
Our school is in the process of planning for 2020 to ensure your child has the best possible start to the new school year. In order to plan for classes, it is imperative we know the number of students returning to Liverpool Public School in 2020.
We are asking you to notify the school if your child will not be returning to Liverpool Public School at the beginning of the 2020 school year. Please inform the front office as soon as possible.
It is also important we have accurate student numbers in the first few weeks of school. We cannot count students who have not returned unless we have a letter from the parent indicating their child will return and the date of return to school. If your child will not attend Liverpool Public School in the first week or two of school please inform the school.
School resumes for teachers on Tuesday 28 January and students commence on Wednesday 29 January 2020.
Office Hours
The school will be closed on Friday 20 December. Please conclude any school business with our office staff by 3:15pm on Thursday 19 December.
Students will finish on Wednesday 18 December 2019.
We would like to wish all our family and friends a wonderful Christmas and a wonderful New Year!
Thank you
Mrs Alfaro (K-2) and Mrs Vajdevski (3-6)
From the classroom - 1D and Mrs Drakakis
1D has had an amazing year in 2019. We have discovered our Superpower was reading and we have all learnt the Four Jobs of Reading. Each day every student reads their reading books and makes some amazing connections.
During mathematics we have been breaking numbers apart to really understand what they mean. We have had some exciting lessons in our class that involved working with robots. All the students had a chance to program a robot to find a spot on the mat using position words.
1D also had lots of colourful faces celebrating our schools Colour Fun Run. Lots of students participated in the Fun Run, even Mrs Drakakis. In science we also planted some grass seeds and watered our plants to make Grass Heads. We were very excited to give our little characters a haircut every couple of weeks.
1D are also amazing artists and during an art lesson they made a 3D sculpture out of paper to show height and space. They were very creative. 1D have had an amazing year of learning and we are all looking forward to the exciting learning that will happen next year.

The students were very professional during their performances and kept their energy up for both days. The students received positive feedback from the audience members.
The organisers were impressed by the 30 minute set and have asked the groups to return for more events early next year.
Russ the Bus
Russ the Story Bus came to visit Liverpool Public on Monday 25 November. During the visit the Year 2 and 3 students enjoyed taking part in an interactive talk run by children’s book author and illustrator, Leigh Hobbs. Leigh Hobbs shared his love of books, discussed his craft and inspired the children to think creatively about storytelling. After, the students were encouraged to browse bookshelves full of the latest children’s books inside Russ the Story Bus and were able to choose a book to take home.

Sport News
Tiger Tag Gala Day
Our Tiger Tag Gala Day was a huge success. We had many students interested in attending an unfortunately had to limit numbers to due to available team places. The students that went all had a great day, luckily missing the heat and the smoke haze. All teams were very competitive on the day with our Junior Girls team standing out on the day coming away with 3 wins out of 4 games. Well done all players on the day and we look forward to all students putting what they have learnt into PSSA next year.
Phillip House Challenge
The House Leaders from Phillip are coordinating the final House Challenge for the year. Competition will be at Lunchtime in Week 9 with each year group participating on a specific day. Look out for the posters around the school so you know which day to compete on the field.
PSSA and Representative Sport
Next year we will continue with our 4 PSSA sports; Netball, Soccer, Touch and Rugby League. Keep training over the holidays so you are all ready to go for next year.
If you are interested in a specific sport and you train for it outside of school, remember to let Mr Wann know next year so he can put your name down for Zone and Regional trials in the sport of your choice. There are a lot of sports to choose from and you can always trial for more than one.

SHOULD CHILDREN HAVE PETS
I strongly believe that children should definitely have pets!
Pets can teach children responsibility like taking care of each other. Pets need to be fed every day and children can do that for their pets. It is important to take care of pets.
Children can feel safe with their pets. Playing with pets is fun and they can have a good friendship between each other. If you have a pet you will not feel lonely and bored.
Having a pet can make you be active. Going to play and walk with your pet is good exercise for you and your pet. Playing in the outdoors in the fresh air makes you both healthy.
In my opinion having a pet is a good thing for children. It is a wonderful way for children to grow up.
It is so beautiful to see children happy with their pets.
Marc Year 6 EAL/D Support
The Leader in Me
The Leader In Me Framework at this time focuses on Habit 3 - Put First Things First and Habit 4 - Think Win-Win. In Habit 3 students learned about prioritising, making schedules and following plans. They engaged in a variety of experiences to learn about the importance of being disciplined and organised in order to achieve the Private Victory.
In Habit 4 - Think Win-Win students are learning about the different ways to achieve the Public Victory. Habit 4 is based on the principles of mutual benefit, fairness and abundance. Students are given opportunities to explore the six paradigms of human interactions and learn how to resolve conflict to make everyone happy.

Gardening News
Every month, we have had a steady supply of potatoes going into the vegetable garden beds...which has meant a steady supply coming out, of which the children have been cooking and eating happily! Mixed with onions and tomatoes, this has made for veritable feasts!
Students weeded, set up irrigation in and planted out the front garden with native plants. We are expecting these to attract native birds to the school. There is mulch on top of the soil, that helps to keep it cool underneath and reduce water loss. Finding the right mulch to put on your garden is a great idea - especially during Summer - to combat the heat and help to retain water underneath.
We have had a baby magpie sitting on the bird-bath regularly, waiting for it's parents to return. If you can, consider placing fresh water in a safe space for wildlife to drink from on hot days.
There has been evidence of nematodes on the carrots, so we planted corn and marigolds in the bed, to try and rid them organically. Stink bugs on the citrus trees have made a presence too...and many have been removed by our bug-buster teams!
The strawberries have been fruiting and make for delicious little treats, as do the many cherry tomatoes throughout! The children have been squeezing some of the old tomatoes into pots filled with seed-raising mix and making plants to take home, grow and eat from!
Children have been delighted with the amount of ladybirds found on the parsley. They are pretty little things to find in the garden! On the other hand, we have been putting any snails found into the compost bin, to eat the plant material in there!
We put in more seeds to attract beneficial insects to the garden, to help us pollinate things. We love most insects, as they help the ecosystem to be healthy and function well.
Next year, we may need a hand every now and then to do some weeding in the vegetable garden beds - please let us know if this could interest you.
Enjoy the Summer break! Happy gardening,
