Keeping you Informed
Bobcats,
Good morning. I hope you have had a great week. This morning I sent out communications to parents who had students with missing assignments last week. I will do this each week.
I have received funding from both our PTSA and the REACH foundation to provide yard signs for our 8th-grade students. The signs should be completed by the end of this week and we will be looking at doing a drive-thru pick up next week. I will have more details once I know the final date I will get the signs. Anyone who would like to help handout signs or just line up and cheer on our students as they go through is welcome to help. Each of our high schools has done this for their seniors and it has really lifted the spirits of staff and students who were there. There is no requirement and zero pressure for anyone to participate but the option is there if you are so inclined.
Progress Reports- This is the communication you should have received from Director of Middle School Keith Carmona last week.
The ONLY students who will be receiving progress reports during the fourth quarter this year are students who are either at-risk of receiving an "Incomplete" at the end of the school year OR students who have not yet consistently responded to online learning. For these students, we will not be issuing letter grades in progress reports. Instead, please mark these students with an "I" for Incomplete. Additionally, we have added comments that relate to online learning which you can choose from. Please be sure to mark at least one comment for any student that you will be giving an "I" at progress reporting.
For the students who do not fall under this, you do not need to mark anything. Leave all students not at-risk blank. Additionally, you also do not need to mark citizenship marks for any student.
The window for 4th quarter progress report grading opens on Monday, May 11 and closes on Tuesday, May 19.
PTSA Member Reimbursement- If you have not given your receipts to the PTSA for supplies bought below in the form to complete and scan with your receipts to send to the PTSA by Friday, May 15th. Send the forms to suzneylan@gmail.com
Final Grades- I wanted to make sure we are all on the same page about what our final grade reporting will look like. You will be submitting a letter grade for your students. It will need to be a grade no lower than the 3rd quarter progress report. The grade can be higher if you feel that a student has received a higher mark. The district will convert all of the grades to Credit or Incomplete. The reason for this is so there is a clear letter grade if we have any challenges about a letter grade in years to come.
End of the Year- We are looking at a modified schedule for the end of the school year that will be different than what was sent to us by Dr. Plahy. I will discuss this with our department leads as there are some changes in what promotion could look like.
Teacher input for master schedule- Please take time this week to complete the input for the master schedule form. We are finalizing our numbers and will be giving section needs to department leads shortly. https://forms.gle/dgdRnAmKEo8knBbt6
Campus Access- From 2-4 pm each day the gate by the main office near Candy's room, the padlock will be unlocked, and the lock on the entrance to the North quad will be unlocked. The gates will be closed and need to stay closed, but your room key will get you in the main gate by the office. Remember that social distancing needs to happen and not to be having any meetings on-site only via zoom. If Maria is out, I will have her text me that day, and I will send an email to let everyone know.
Weekly Certificate of Recognition- Please fill out this form if you have a student that is doing a great job with remote learning, and you would like to recognize them. You can nominate as many students as you wish each week. We had over 50 students get recognized last week! Thank you for taking the time to let students know they are doing a great job.
PLC- Vertical Meetings Department leads will reach out to set up the meetings.
YLMS Staff Store- Don't forget Bobcats; we have a new online store where you can buy YLMS gear. I have ordered a sweatshirt and polo and the quality of both is very nice. What is nice is you order what you want when you want and then it is shipped to you. No waiting for everyone to buy items. Yorba Linda Middle Gear Store
