LHS Staff Newsletter--Year 19, Vol. 1, 8/19/19
We are excited to have everyone back at the Nest soon. Our fabulous inservice week is scheduled for August 23 through August 30. We will begin on Friday, August 23 with breakfast in the cafeteria at 7:15 a.m. provided by our wonderful SCA organization. Following breakfast, we will have our opening staff meeting in the Library at 8 a.m. A draft copy of the inservice week schedule can be found here. We have worked very hard to listen and respond to the feedback we received from staff last spring. You will see on the draft schedule that we have front-loaded most of the required meetings and teachers have significant time throughout the week to work in their classrooms and collaborate with colleagues. Dress is business casual except on Wednesday for Open House night.
The 2019-2020 school year promises to be our best one yet as we fearlessly pursue greatness.
Prep for Friday, August 23
August 22 Flex Day
- All teachers whose schedule begins on 8/22/19
- Library Media Assistants
- School Nurses
Terri will have special sign-in book for August 22nd located in the main office. Be sure that you log your hours in the special sign-in book on that day as she will be entering the time for this flex day on Friday.
Staff who do not attend on August 22 will extend their workday during the first two weeks in November and will keep a log of extra time worked on their WISE timesheets. Employees who do not work the flex day and who do not wish to extend their time in November, may choose to take personal leave for this time.
Eagle Nation Orientation & Open House
Our annual Open House event will follow orientation from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m.
All club and class sponsors are asked to prepare a display for exhibition in the main hallway for the Open House event. This is a great opportunity to recruit students for your organization and to showcase the many opportunities available at our great school. We never get a second chance to make a first impression!

Kudos
Kudos to two LHS grads--Quincy & Quinton Jones. Their counselor, Allison Haley received a note from their mother with the following information: They both are employed by Caliber Collision Center!!! Full-time positions with full benefits which began from day one. They just finished their 1st week and they love it! They are working at 2 different locations. They started them off at $11.50 per hour and they are working Mon - Fri.
Kudos to Stacy Siock and Hiliary Thompson who attended the VASCD Student Engagement conference in August.
Heritage Week Speakers Needed
Heritage Week 2019 is set for November 18 - 22. The theme for the week is, "Chase Your Dreams." The planning committee is looking for speakers from the community to present to our students around this theme. If you know of someone who would be a good fit and would be willing to speak to our students, please let Shaylee Laton or Dave Siock know as soon as possible.
