PTA RISE Program
Hurricane Relief Effort- Creature Care
Over the past two weeks, Murphy PALS, Student Council, National Elementary Honor Society, and National Junior Honor Society sponsored a donation drive for Hurricane Harvey (and Irma) families called Creature Care. In the massive evacuations from the flood waters and impending hurricane, families in the 53 counties affected by the storms often had to leave their pets behind. Animal rescue groups went in to rescue as many animals as they could and operations are still ongoing.
In order to reunite these pets with their families, the SPCA across Texas is taking in and sheltering these animals. The SPCA in McKinney currently houses 175 cats and kittens while the Dallas SPCA is housing over 250 dogs, and those numbers are continuing to grow. As such, the SPCA has a huge need for supplies to help them care for these animals over the next few months.
Our collection drive lasted for two weeks and during that time our Murphy family donated food, cat litter, beds, toys and crates for the SPCA.
We collected:
115 items that were donated directly to the SPCA in Houston
260 items that were donated to the SPCA in McKinney
25 items that were donated to Shutt'er Down Ranch (North Texas Cat Rescue) who are taking in injured and owner surrendered animals from Irma and Harvey
Total Items collected: 400 items
Approximate Value of items: $3196.00
Special Thanks to the PTA and Mary Fuentes who delivered the donations to the SPCA.
It is amazing what we can accomplish together!
Thank you, Murphy.
Book Fair Success!
Thank you for helping to make the Fall Book Fair a big success!
Ms. Pearson would like to thank all of the Murphy parents, students, and teachers who purchased books or volunteered to help at the fair. We were able to purchase $1268 in books from Scholastic-a total of 100 books, and receive $2000 to purchase books from other vendors. Thank you!

Once the forms are filled or if you have any questions, come see Mrs. Isbell, Mr. Murtaugh, Mrs. Rooke, or Ms. Damewood.
