February 4, 2020 #Work Hard, Poupard!
Dear Poupard Families,
Dear Poupard Families,
Transitional Activities Focused on Connecting
Now that families have a better understanding of where their learner will be attending next fall, I wanted to share some updates of all the great things we're currently doing to ease the transition for your student. Our goal is to continue providing opportunities for students, families, and staff to begin bonding with one another.
Below are the following things we've either completed or are working on:
- Both Principal Bishop and Principal Keelan have visited each classroom across our building to read them a story and begin connecting with their future students.
- The Poupard, Mason and Monteith staff have been partnering up for professional development opportunities this year. Most recently, all three staff's visited the Charles H. Wright African American Museum on January 17th during our half day.
- Students from several classes have been pen paling with classrooms at the two schools.
- Our PTO has been in communication and has attended meetings at both of the other schools. The PTO's are beginning to plan events where students and families will have the opportunity to begin meeting one another.
- Coordinating band and instrumental concerts with the other schools.
- Current Poupard Families attending school events being held at Mason and Monteith.
These next few months will provide many opportunities for our families to develop critical relationships with their new school communities. Please keep an eye out for informational flyers and emails as the events are announced. I strongly urge you all to attend whenever possible in order to ease the transition for all involved!
Field Trips
I'm thrilled to share that our students across all grade levels at Poupard will have access to amazing field trip experiences. Our Teacher Leadership Team and I collaborated to allocate our additional Title 1 funds to various field trips students will attend for the remainder of the year. Most grade levels are attending two field trips with bussing at no cost to families. The only costs families may be required to pay are chaperone fees if they elect to attend.
Thank you for making Poupard an amazing place to be!

Parents for Unity in Diversity
Dear GP Community! Our Parents For Unity In Diversity Committee is happy to announce that the district-wide parent meetings for this year will take place on Jan. 28th (in the Mason Elementary Library) and April 13th (in the Defer Elementary Library) from 6-7:30 pm. The meetings will be facilitated by Ginni Winters and the topic of our conversations will be centered around how we can help our community heal and become better during this time of transition for all our students. We are asking all participants to come prepared to brainstorm ways we can make our community better for everyone involved. Please consider joining us for these rich conversations; our students and community deserve it!
Thanks for your time,
