Principal's Message
Hello,
Thank you all for reaching out with your questions and feedback. I know that you have lots of questions, and we are working to answer them as best we can. We appreciate your patience as we work through this process and try to make it as smooth as possible.
A big highlight of our week on campus is that TEACHERS come back tomorrow! We are practicing all of our best campus COVID strategies in order to allow them time to prepare and plan outstanding remote instruction for our students.
The most frequent question we have received so far is about releasing schedules. We plan to have schedules go live on Wednesday morning via Student Access and Parent Access, but please keep in mind that counselors are still balancing classes and making adjustments, so it is possible that your student's schedule ends up a little different than it is on Wednesday.
You will also find information about Chromebook requests and distribution below, so please see that section if you are in need of technology for your student.
Also, we are planning on updating Camp War Eagle on Monday, August 10th to include more information that students will need for the first week of school, and we will update it again as it gets closer to time to have students on campus.
Dr. Null is hosting another YouTube Live session tomorrow evening at 6pm, so make sure to tune in there for the latest updates from CISD.
Even more information and clarification will be coming soon, so if all of your questions are not answered here, they will likely be answered soon. As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns that need attention.
We cannot wait to get to know you, your family, and your student! Only a few more days until school starts :)
Sincerely,
Melanie Bujnoch

Freshman Orientation - Camp War Eagle
Camp War Eagle UPDATE will be live on August 10th!
Camp War Eagle (our freshman orientation) is a way for the Oak Ridge Freshman students to become familiar with campus services, be introduced to the teachers at ORHS-9, and learn about the ORHS campus culture. Every student enrolled at ORHS-9 in the fall will have a Camp War Eagle course added to their Canvas dashboard at the end of this month. We intend to have several updates to the Camp War Eagle course as this school year unfolds. In the course, parents and students will be able to find information that will be helpful in the transition to the high school.
Since we are all starting the year remote, the initial content will be all of what you and your child need to know while remote. This will include:
- teacher introductions
- how to find & read your schedule
- an ORHS spirit wear store
- and more!
- a tour of the school
- information about clubs and organizations
- campus policies
- an explanation of the COVID-19 campus policies
- and more!

Remote Learning Attendance
While we are in 100% remote learning, we will take attendance through engagement checks. This means that on a Red Day - a student will be considered present if they engage with their material or teacher for all scheduled classes for 1, 3, 5, and 7th periods.
This can most effectively be done by logging into Canvas and working on coursework or emailing the instructor. A completed assignment each day is not necessary for a student to be considered present, but the student does need to engage with the material and/or teacher each day. The student must engage by 11:59 on the day of the class to be considered present for that day. Teachers will update attendance the following school day for each class.
Please remember that while in remote learning, attendance rules still apply. This means that students must be in attendance 90% of the days a class is offered to receive credit.
Roadmap to reopening - CISD and ORHS9
Remote Learning Grading Policy
Grades will be taken at a minimum of nine (9) daily grades (HW, Quizzes, in-class assignments) and three (3) major grades (tests, projects, essays) per nine weeks. This will be the case for both in person and remote learning. Students will have similar, if not the same, assignments in both remote learning and in-person learning.
Tests will be given in Canvas during remote instruction, and essays and projects may be turned in through Canvas as well. At times, utilizing Google Drive through the CISD Single Sign On may be expected of a student.
There will be more guidance and clarity to attendance and grading guidelines as we progress toward August 12, 2020.
