Creative Paws Virtual Art Showcase

The arts are not just one part of our magnet themes, they are a cornerstone of who we are and what we do at Mission Vista. Although the pandemic and current health orders have stifled opportunities to perform or showcase their artwork in-person, members of the MVHS chapter of the National Arts Society got creative and worked tirelessly to curate more than 130 student pieces in four art media to share (virtually) with our community.

The talent on display in the first-ever (virtual) Creative Paws Art Showcase is impressive and is worth a look. Check it out here.

Textbook and Materials Pickup

The initial textbook/materials pickup process for the term was held this past week, and we were able to get key textbooks and materials into the hands of most students. I recognize that the 9th-grade pickup event resulted in much longer wait-times than anticipated, and I apologize for the inconvenience to our freshmen families. After the first day, we modified our system to make the process much more efficient for sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

Students who still need to pick up textbooks may do so every school day from 2:30-3:00 pm. Parents are also able to pick up textbooks on behalf of students between the hours of 8:30 and 3:00pm, Monday-Friday. Our goal is to get materials to students while protecting instructional time, during which students should be engaged in distance learning.

Senior Meeting: Key Information

Earlier today, we held a senior meeting to discuss preliminary details about end-of-year events. There are still quite a few unknowns but have plans in progress for multiple scenarios to make sure that we are able to properly celebrate our seniors.

Please visit the MVHS Webpage and click on the Class of 2021 button to view key documents and information shared in that meeting. The slide deck from today's meeting is also linked below.

Back to School Night: February 10th (Virtual Event)

Spring Back to School Night will take place on February 10th at 6pm. I will host a general live webinar session providing an update of news and events at MVHS, and our teachers will release welcome videos that provide an overview of their respective courses. The format will be generally the same as it was for the Fall term.

Click here for the Webinar link.

A link to the welcome videos from teachers will be sent to all families next week.

The Spring term represents a clean slate and new opportunity for success. For students who need some help along the way, we recommend the following resources:

Academic Support:

  • Attend class every day, with camera on
  • Take advantage of teacher support during the class period -- this means speaking up via microphone, a chat message to the teacher, or via email.
  • Make an appointment during office hours. All teachers are available from 2:30-3:00 Mon.-Fri.

Social-Emotional Support:

  • Find low-risk ways to "speak up" and get support by visiting our Social-Emotional webpage
  • Reach out to a trusted adult on campus (teacher, counselor, administrator, staff member). We care about you, and we all know how to point you in the right direction

We are thrilled to share that Hapara is once again available for our teachers (classic and virtual) to use. This is an important tool to assist teachers with digital citizenship and student engagement.

Please see this letter, which outlines Hapara and contains information about student data privacy.

The VUSD Magnet School Application window is open through mid-February. If you have a rising 9th grader, or know anyone who is interested in having their student attend Mission Vista for the 2021-2022 school year, please visit the Magnet School Application webpage.

Current MVHS students do NOT have to re-apply for next year.

MVHS will host two more virtual "tours" prior to the application deadline; the next "tour" is scheduled for next week Tuesday, February 9th at 3:30pm. Please spread the word! We will post a link to the Zoom webinar to our school website.

Seniors: Don't miss out on Scholarship Opportunities!

Check the MVHS Scholarship Board on a regular basis. Questions? Email Mr. Faraimo (eleasalofaraimo@vistausd.org).

FAFSA is Due March 2nd!

Seniors -- If you have not yet done so, be sure to complete the FAFSA or Dream Act application. These programs allow eligible students to apply for financial aid (grants, work-study, and loans) to pay for college or career school.

Our goal is for 100% of the Class of 2021 to complete a FAFSA or Dream Act application so that all students know what access they have to financial support for their post-secondary aspirations.
