ADMINISTRATION UPDATE
Good Afternoon Families, Caregivers and Community Members,
It is hard to believe we are midway through March. I overheard a conversation with a staff member and students about the weather folklore, “In like a lion, out like a lamb.” This week was roaring with examples. When CCS or CVSD has urgent updates for families, our most efficient form of communication is to send a phone message via School Messenger. Messages are not instantaneous and we ask that caregivers take the time to listen to the message thoroughly. Imagine the obstacle created if 10% of the families call the school to ask for a repeat of the content of the message. On Wednesday the office handled over 35 phone calls and 20+ emails with changing plans when the ski and ride was postponed.
For our middle school students, it is the closing of their second trimester. JumpRope reports will be emailed home this afternoon. All families are encouraged to participate in their Spring Conference time. We appreciate the time that families and teachers carve out to connect and collaborate regarding their students. We know this happens outside of the formal conferences throughout the year as well. This collaboration is extremely valuable and we appreciate the partnerships we have with our CCS caregivers!
Speaking of Partnerships. The PTO has just distributed a round of grants that include funds for a Family Math Night, recess swings, library art supply cart, decodable books for Spanish, chicken hatching supplies for a life cycle unit, Because of Winn-Dixie books, mic system for x-country and track meets, art supplies, tenor saxophone repair, and Second Grade Squad T-shirts. An additional committee has been working on targeted funds for the CCS STEM program. From their outreach to community members, a new connection has been made with Steve Flint, the fifth grade team and BETA Technologies. The students took a ride over to Beta on our CVSD E-bus Thursday and were inspired by what they saw.
And as always, please enjoy our CCS Photos of the Week.
All the best,
CCS Administration

UPDATE FROM THE CCS HEALTH OFFICE
I wanted to reach out as we are seeing an uptick in stomach viruses, strep throat, and general illnesses presenting in school. As a school community, we are all committed to keeping students in school as much as possible, however, we also know that sometimes staying home is best for everyone. We encourage families to follow this guidance when navigating when to keep students home.
COVID does continue to circulate in our greater community, but it does not appear to be the primary source of illness at this time. We continue to have both antigen and PCR tests available to families, please reach out to us if you have a need for these to be sent home with your student.
As a school community, we try to do our best to keep our students and staff healthy and safe while at school. In order to do that, we rely on our families and caregivers to keep students home who are not healthy enough to be in school. Please be mindful of our school guidelines when deciding when to send your student to school each morning and as always, please reach out if you have any questions or contact your pediatrician if/when your student is ill for further guidance.
With Gratitude,
Lauren Calkins, RN BSN
School Nurse

NEW LET'S TALK FEATURES!
We have been using Let's Talk for about a year now in the district and since the start of the school year in our schools. We strive to make it easy for any parent/caregiver, community member, staff, or student to contact the district or our schools. Anyone can use Let's Talk to ask questions, request information, and share feedback or compliments.
Here are two new features that we've recently added to Let's Talk.
- Translate: We have just added the ability to submit a Let's Talk form in 12 languages. When you go to our Let's Talk page, you'll see an option to Select a Language. It also works on the pop-out tab.
- Send us a text from a mobile device! Now, contacting us is even easier from a mobile device. The district and each school have a unique number just for Let's Talk texts. Send us a text with a question, suggestion, or compliment and you'll get a reply that way too!
Use these numbers to reach out via text: (Note: these numbers do not accept phone calls)
- District inquiries: 802-278-9468
- CVU: 802 278 9510
- Charlotte Central School: 802 278 6935
We hope that you feel comfortable using Let's Talk to reach out on any number of topics. You will get a response within 3 business days, though most often, it's sooner. Look for the Let's Talk tab or page on our district's website from your computer or mobile device.
