Tennis
The Saints boys tennis team collected the first state championship in school history with their win in Monroe last week. Sophomore Kai Reinauer won the state singles title and junior Eli Crawford and freshman Ben Reinauer took home the doubles crown. Also scoring valuable points for the Saints were the doubles teams of Camden Watkins and Dillon Darby and Logan Bertrand and Grant Couste’.
The girls team finished in a tie for fifth place, with victories by Kyleigh Atkins and Emma McCall in singles and the doubles tandem of Meredith Henning and Madelyn Buttross.
The state title was the third of the year for Saints athletics and the 50th in school history.
Golf
The boys golf team came back from a six-stroke deficit after round one to take a two-shot victory over host Teurlings Catholic and claim the Division II State Championship. The title is the third in school history and first since 2010. Sophomore Ross Anderson won the individual championship, becoming the first male Saints golfer to accomplish the feat. Classmate George Trappey placed third individually.
Freshman Jonathan Perry shot a career-best 72 – the low round of the day – in the final round to give the Saints a much-needed boost. Fellow freshmen Cameron Langley and Collin Achee also contributed to the win.
Baseball
The Saints cruised to a two-game sweep of Patrick Taylor in the regional round of the Division II playoffs. Evan Joubert slammed a pair of home runs and lefthanders Parker Morgan and Thomas Watson picked up the wins on the mound in the 10-4 and 12-0 wins.
Next up is the quarterfinal round, which will be played Friday and Saturday at McNeese’s Jeaux Miller Ballpark. The #2 seed Saints will face 10th seed St. Michael at 6 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and, if necessary, 5 p.m. Saturday.
