Hello King Families!
We want to thank you for your incredible support as we navigated through the first week of school. While the first days were hugely successful, there were definitely some challenges, especially technical difficulties including - chromebooks not working properly, spotty WIFI, getting onto meeting links, getting dropped from meeting links, etc. We are grateful for your patience and support as we fine tune our new way of schooling. Even Roary made a virtual appearance for some of our Kindergarten and 1st grade classes this week! Roary reminded us that we will get through this together!
In addition, we acknowledge the challenges with learning happening inside the home. Please remember that if your child is on a video call, the camera can see people/items in the background. It is ok to turn off your child's camera on occasion to make needed changes.
A reminder that I will be hosting informal Q&A sessions for each grade level this week. The schedule and links are at the end of the newsletter. While there won't be anyone from Technology present, I will be happy to collect any technology questions you may have and get back to you with responses as soon as possible.
In addition to some of the information that I had included in last Wednesday's King Connection, I am also including
* A message from King's PTO
* Links to several of Dr. Tremblay's brief Back to School Updates
* A letter from King's new Social Worker
* Upcoming Flu Clinic Information
Please be sure to utilize the district tech website if you are having any tech issues.
Please note: The district has created this "Return to Learn" page that includes timely planning updates and resources for families.

Letter from King's new Social Worker
My name is Jessica Drennen, I will be joining Mel Collura as a second social worker at King Elementary School. I am so happy to be joining the King community and am looking forward to getting to know and work with your students, as well as with you and your families!
Before coming to King I worked as an elementary school social worker in Brooklyn, NY and Harvard, MA. As you can tell, I love working in the school setting with children! I believe school should be a safe space for students, where we can discuss our emotions and learn problem solving skills to resolve conflicts and build resilience. It is my goal to be a person your students feel safe and comfortable coming to if they are having a problem or need someone to talk to. That being said, as their families you are the most important people in their life, and I strive to work in partnership with you to successfully support students.
I know that remote learning is weighing heavy on everyone’s mind. I am a resource for both your students and you during this time as we navigate unchartered territory! When we return to in school learning I will be working with students individually, running groups and working in collaboration with our teachers and staff to support student needs. I am available to provide counseling for issues such as loss, anxiety, trauma and emotion regulation. I am also here to consult with families regarding any social, emotional, or behavioral concerns.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions, would like to connect about your student, or just want to say hello-- I always love hearing from families!
