A Message From the Principal
Happy April Leopard Families!
How can it already be April? It is hard to believe that we are in the home stretch with less than 40 days of school remaining! Time flies when you are busy learning AND having fun, and we are certainly doing both here at LPE! Our students are making so much progress, both academically and behaviorally as we continue to focus on growth in both of these areas! In addition, with the reopening of our campus, students are enjoying celebrations, lunch with loved ones, interacting with volunteers as well as some awesome field trips! We love that we are able to provide our students with a well rounded school experience - hopefully one that will have a positive impact on their future!
April brings about one of my favorite seasons - Baseball Season! Not only do I LOVE the Houston Astros, I also love the life lessons that come from baseball!
1. NEVER GIVE UP - A lot can change in one inning so never quit pushing forward!
2. EFFORT OVER OUTCOME - The scoreboard (the gradebook) doesn't always tell the whole story - you won't always come out on top, but if you keep putting in the effort, you will continually do better!
3. APPRECIATE THE MOMENT - Enjoy and be grateful for where you are right now, good things are happening all around you, don't be so focused on the future that you forget to appreciate the present!
4. FOCUS ON WHAT YOU CAN CONTROL - In baseball and in life, there are so many things we can't control, but we can ALWAYS have control over OUR attitude and OUR effort! Shifting your focus to what you can control is empowering!
5. SWING HARD, JUST IN CASE YOU GET A HIT - Don't let feel of failure hold you back! Great things can happen if we are willing to take a risk! Make a mistake, learn from it, and move on!
6. KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE BALL - If you don't have goals, why are you playing? Setting and achieving goals is the most rewarding part of baseball AND life!
7. THERE'S NO CRYING IN BASEBALL - Have fun! After all, baseball is just a game! While life isn't necessarily a game, you still need to have fun and enjoy the process!
8. TEAMWORK MAKE THE DREAMWORK - You can't do it alone, in baseball or in life.
Thank you for being part of our TEAM - we are definitely #STRONGERTOGETHER!

Lost and Found
- Our lost and found is full so if your child is missing anything, please encourage them to check the lost and found!
Additional Questions/Concerns
- If you have additional questions or concerns about our routines, procedures and expectations, feel free to contact myself or your child's classroom teacher via phone or email OR click on the link below to view the LPE Student Handbook!
Attendance Matters
As a reminder, please call the office if your child is going to be absent for any reason (ie: doctor’s appointment, illness, etc.) so that we can stay informed and don't forget to send a note when they return (whether excused or unexcused) as documentation of the reason for their absence.
This week, we will be sending home the Attendance Letters that are autogenerated by our system when your child has 3 or more unexcused absences. Remember, under the Texas Compulsory Attendance Law, all students are required to attend classes at least 90% of the days within a school year. Therefore, these letters just serve as a friendly reminder of the importance of ensuring that your child is in school everyday that they are healthy enough to attend!
TARDIES are becoming a huge concern, so another friendly reminder that school begins at 7:40 and students are tardy at 7:50. Our plan is to have all students in their class, ready to begin instruction by the time the tardy bell rings. Please plan accordingly to have your children here in plenty of time to avoid tardies. There is usually a lull in the drop-off line from about 7:20 to 7:30.
April's 100% Attendance Incentive will include both attendance AND tardies, so please help us by making sure YOUR student is HERE AND ON TIME!
Parent and Family Engagement
Parent Involvement might look different for each family, depending on your circumstances, from talking with your students about their learning to communicating with their teachers to attending school events to volunteering at school events - and everything in between. However, no matter how are you able to be involvement, the person that benefits the most is your child!
If you are looking for ways to increase your involvement, consider filling out the volunteer application or reaching out to your child's teacher to find out what opportunities are available.
Counselor's Corner
Hello, Leopard Families.
Wow, it’s already April! I cannot even believe we have only two months left of this school year. Our April character trait for the month is Honesty. We will be stressing the importance of being truthful and the need for honesty in order to build true trusting relationships. I always am so proud of students that display honesty even at times when it is hard. Their courage amazes me, and they gain so much respect. I look forward to some great conversations and examples as we discuss this character trait.
On another note, we have been given some extra bags of food from the Houston Food Bank. If you know of a family in need or it would help your family, please contact me. All information is confidential. As always, please feel free to reach out if I can help with anything else.
Nurse's Nook
Reminder: If you had a note sent home for a vision, hearing, or antes referral, please notify the nurse after your follow-up with your health care provider.
Fear and anxiety can be overwhelming and cause strong emotions in adults and children. Just like adults, children benefit greatly from consistent and deliberate self-care actives. Doing self-care activities not only helps cultivate good habits, it also helps the mind and body operate at their best. See the BINGO chart below for a fun way kids can practice self-care.
