## What A Wonderful Week!

Monday-What a fun Monday! We learned how to make our writing exciting. Students are working hard on adding a lot of details to their writing. We talked about sentences that were fun to read. Students also created their own snowmen using marshmallows. Each child had to draw a snowman, outline it with marshmallows, and count how many marshmallows used. As a class, we used 668 marshmallows!

Tuesday-Tuesdays are so busy! For our weekly guidance lesson, we learned more about The Tattle Tongue. Students were taught the difference between tattling and reporting. Our fifth grade book buddies also visited our classroom. We really enjoy reading with our friends. It is fun seeing our buddies in the hallway throughout the day and waving to them. We also began our math assessment for the second nine weeks. Our math assessment is called SNAP. This focuses on counting forward and backward, number patterns, sequencing, addition, and subtraction. Check out the video below to practice counting by 10's to 100.

Wednesday-In math, we are continuing to discuss shapes. Students are having to think of objects that represent certain shapes. Feel free to do a shape hunt around your home to see if your child can locate 2D shapes and 3D shapes. Since, we learned so much about penguins last Friday, we decided to create our own penguins. Students had to trace, cut, and create. It was so much fun!

Thursday-In word study, we are working hard on sorting our words. We are practicing saying, sorting, and spelling. In writing, we began working on our hopes and dreams for 2016! We also began discussing solids, liquids, and gases. This is a fun unit during winter! We will continue to talk more about this next week.

Friday-For our non-fiction Let's Find Out, we learned Dr. Martin Luther, King, Jr. and how he changed America and how he is a very famous American. We talked about ways to be fair. On our Let's Find Out resources, we watched a short video to learn more about him. Please check it out at http://letsfindout.scholastic.com. Students also created headbands that say "We Have A Dream". Check out the picture below.
