What We Are Learning
- Reading- We are going to be talking about how to find the Main Idea- and supporting details of a non-fiction passage for the next few weeks. Our Strategy Group Focus will dig into this deeper. We are also working on Antonyms
- Math- We have launched into our Big Fractions Unit! We will be working in math rotations to learn about comparing fractions with a different bottom number. We will also discuss that a fraction is a sum of parts (3/8 = 1/8 +1/8 +1/8)
- Writing- We are researching and publishing our "Bringing NC History to Life" mini books. The topics that each student chose come directly from our Social Studies standards.
- Social Studies- In Social Studies this week, we will be learning about the Native Americans that settled in WNC (Cherokee!)
- Roots and Wings- Students continue to work on their Balobby Project. Now that students have designed their land- they will write a constitution for it!
Moon Phase Flocabulary
We study the moon phases by watching a fun video, and building them with Oreos!
Equivalent Oreos
We took the leftover Oreos and discussed the word Equivalent and how it relates to fractions.
ANTONYMS on a log
We studied Antonyms this week. Martavis even delivered some "Antonyms on a Log" to Coach Swain!
Missing Chromebook
We are very fortunate to have a class set of Chromebooks which we share within our grade level. However, recently one of these Chromebooks have gone missing. These Chromebooks are not currently allowed to be signed out to go home. We are currently missing #15. Please check with your student and in their backpack. We would appreciate a safe return of the Chromebooks to our classrooms, so they can continue to be used to support our student’s learning. Thank you for your attention to this matter!
Finding Mrs. Rigsby
If your child has a change in how they are going home- please send a note with your child or call the classroom and leave a message. I try to check my email often- but once I'm teaching, I don't stop! Please let me know how I can help your student be successful.
