Teacher Appreciation Week

Our teachers and staff at Morgan were treated to special surprises all week this week as our Morgan Volunteers PTO, and many Morgan families took the time to say "Thank You" to teachers and staff for what they do each day for our Morgan students. There were breakfast treats on Monday, a pizza lunch with donated baked goods on Wednesday, and a "Create your own trail mix" set up in the teacher's lounge today. Many teachers and staff members received cards, letters, treats, plants and more from parents and students to show their appreciation. On behalf of all of our Morgan staff, I would like to say THANK YOU to our Morgan community for your ongoing support and dedication to making Morgan a great place to learn, work, and grow!

Morgan's Math Olympiad and Social Studies Olympiad teams received medals this week for their performance in both academic areas. Congratulations to the teams and Coach Borbolla!

Our sixth graders celebrated their completion of the D.A.R.E. program today with D.A.R.E. graduation. We had representatives from UCS, Shelby Township Supervisor, Richard Stathakis, and Deputy Chief Coil from the Shelby Township Police Department attend our event. Three students, one from each 6th grade classroom, were selected to read their D.A.R.E. essay to parents, family members, staff and distinguished guests. It was a special day for our 6th graders at Morgan.

We continue to learn and grow as May flies by. Next week we have a 2nd and 4th grade music concert, our Variety Show and our Volunteer Appreciation Night. As our calendars continue to fill up with spring activities, please try to find some special time to spend with your children. Take a nice bike ride together on the local trail; visit the Metro park nearby; take a walk together in the neighborhood; play a game; watch a movie. Whatever you do, treasure this time with your child and know that they are just as excited to have your undivided attention.

Have a great week!

6th Grade Career Focus Luncheon

Last week, our 6th graders participated in the annual UCS Foundation for Educational Excellence Career Focus Luncheon at the Palazzo Grande. Students at Morgan were part of 1000 sixth grade students from around UCS who came together with members of the business communities in Shelby Township, Sterling Heights, Macomb, Utica and other surrounding areas. Students shared their digital portfolio and business cards with a business representative and asked learning about different careers that are available after completing high school.

Thank you to our Morgan Volunteers PTO for sponsoring two tables at this annual event!

Morgan Lunch Monitors

Morgan continues to look for additional support during the lunch hour. While our building is allocated a certain amount of paid EduStaff lunch monitors, we can take additional support in the form of volunteers. Students really enjoying seeing their parent/grandparent/aunt/uncle at school during the lunch time helping in the lunchroom or walking around the playground with the kids.

If you are interested in becoming a paid lunch monitor, please click on link below to start an application with EduStaff. EduStaff certified lunch monitors are paid an hourly rate each day they work. EduStaff employees can also complete additional, free, online training sessions and become substitute paraprofessionals for additional paid hours of work.

Morgan also takes volunteers with a current background check on file. If you filled out a Volunteer Sheet within the past few years, you should be able to volunteer for field trips, classroom help and lunch supervision. If you are unsure about your volunteer status, please contact the Main Office and Sharon or Melissa can check for you: 586-797-5800.

If you are interested in volunteering during the lunch hour, which runs from 11:30 AM until 12:15 PM each day, please contact Melissa in the main office and let her know what days you are available to volunteer. Grandparents/aunts/uncles/neighbors are all welcome once we have a background check on file.

If you have any questions, please call Morgan at 586-797-5800 or email Mrs. Lasky at sue.lasky@uticak12.org.
