Academy of the Arts at Bransom
March 27-31, 2017
A Note from Your Principal
We are asking that all parents in all grades to refrain from any visits to our campus on Tuesday and Wednesday. Our entire staff will be focusing on making the campus a secure and calm environment for all students. With testing going on in classrooms and other spaces throughout the building, we keep the entire campus as calm and uneventful as possible for these two days. This helps keep us focused on the well being of our testers and the security of the assessments.
Changes may be made to schedules to facilitate students not being interrupted during testing. Also, teachers will not have access to their emails during testing so please call the office if a message is necessary. Thank you for helping us.
I want to make sure that everyone is aware that the work our students have been doing for years have been preparing them for these assessments. This is true because the assessments are based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (T.E.K.S.) we are required to teach. In other words our instruction is aligned with our assessments. That is a good thing. If our students are working hard every year to learn their grade level material, they stay up-to-date on their learning from year to year, and they give their best effort, the STAAR assessments will not be too difficult for our students.
In closing I want to share that it is a fact that every child does not mature or develop at the very same rate. However, by third grade most students are equipped to take a common assessment with widespread success. That is why the state begins their grade level assessments beginning in third grade. The requirement to pass to be promoted begins in fifth grade. Therefore, fifth graders have multiple opportunities to take their Reading and Math STAARs. Additional interventions and supports are given to students if they do not pass the assessments. Please encourage your child to do their best job the first time to avoid additional administrations.
Along with encouraging your child to do his/her best, your child also needs a good night's sleep, and a nutritious breakfast. Do not do things that are too much different than your regular routine but keep these things in mind as you prepare for the week.
Thanks for making your child's education and our school a priority this week. We know we can depend on each of you.
Things You May Want to Know
- On Monday, March 27, the BISD School Board will be recognizing the Spelling Bee winners from each campus. Our Scarlette Frasier will is recognized as the Area winner as well. Congratulations, Scarlette.
- Our Relay for Life Team is working hard to collect funds to support the American Cancer Society. You and our child may wish to make a plan to contribute to the class "Change Buckets" that will be available in every classroom beginning next week. By the way, thanks to everyone that supported their efforts at the Relay for Life Garage Sale last Saturday.
- On Friday, did your child bring a color sheet home from the First National Bank of Burleson? If not, don't panic teachers may have their students complete the sheet at school. In a week or so, the Academy of the Arts will be submitting these color sheets into a citywide contest. Prizes will be awarded and the one school with the most participation will be granted funds as well. We need funds. Why does the sheet need to come home, you ask? It has to be signed by you in order for us to submit the copy. Without your signature, your child's color sheet will not count for the school. When you sign the back of the sheet, you are giving your permission for the artwork to be displayed in the bank and that's a good thing. Just sign it and send it back.
- On Monday your child will bring home a new book. This book is provided for your child to keep in their library at home. We are participating in "Texas Reads One Book." The campaign is to encourage families to read together at home each night. We have participated for the last several years with great reward. I hope you will begin planning to read together for a few minutes each night for about 2 weeks as we read with other schools in our state during the same time. Coach Jason Garrett will help us kick off the event on Monday morning.
- Next week, the first graders will be performing for our school family along with the entire community at Centennial High School. On Thursday evening, April 6, beginning at 6:00, "SWAMPED" with be performed with a great stage set, amazing costumes, and of course fantastic songs. You do not want to miss this performance. This will be the only performance so don't miss out. We hope the auditorium at the high school will give use amble space for a great audience.
- On Saturday, April 8 @ 8:00AM the Bransom PTO will kick off the annual Bobcat Color Dash. We have great sponsors and many families have already pledged their support. However, it is not too late to participate. Come one, come all. Show your support and have a BLAST! Our PTO is working extremely hard to make sure our playground gets an "ARTS" boost with outdoor instruments for every child to enjoy. We hope you can show your support in some way.
- Finally, we need all Kinder-4th grade families to go to our website at bransom.burlesonisd.net to complete the residency questionnaire for next year. We do not want anyone to miss out on their spot next year. We will make staffing decisions based on this information so help us out and complete the survey today. Thanks so much!
