Welcome Boise Braves!

Summer Newsletter 2017-2018

From the Desk of Robb Thompson - principal

Hello Boise High Families:

My name is Robb Thompson, and it is my pleasure to serve as principal of Boise High School for the 2017-2018 school year. This is the start of my sixth year at Boise as either principal or assistant principal, and I am so thankful to be a part of the Boise High School community. I am really looking forward to the upcoming school year and all of the exciting things that our students will be learning and in which they will be participating. I am very excited about the coming school year and truly believe that every day is a great day to be a Brave.

It is my hope that you and your families have had a restful and enjoyable summer break. Although we still have a few weeks of summer fun remaining, it is time to begin thinking about the 2017 - 2018 school year at Boise High School. Our campus has been a very busy place this summer. We have seen the start of the renovation of the 1936 gym, the demolition of the 1956 music building to make way for the new performing arts center, deep cleaning and grounds projects, the development of the Boise High Athletic Complex at Fort Boise, and staff members on campus preparing for the coming school year. The closer we get to August 22, the first day of school, the busier the campus will be.

We are very pleased to welcome a number of new faculty members to Boise High this year. These changes in personnel have given us the opportunity to select outstanding new members to join the Boise High staff:

Kelly Fossceco – Assistant Principal, A – G

Trevor McKenna – Assistant Principal, P - Z

Geianne Blick Choate – Counselor, Li – Ri

Earl Fitzpatrick – Math Teacher

Katherine Kappel – Math Teacher

Reid Spain-Strombom – Math Teacher

Ashley Holt – Math Teacher

Stephanie Fornander – PE/Athletic Fitness Teacher

Robert Reader – Social Studies Teacher

Melinda Schulz – Speech and Debate Teacher

Mary Chavez-Miranda – Special Education Resource Room Teacher

Yaqian Gai – Mandarin Language and Culture Teacher

Tracey Hocevar – School Psychologist

Cassandra Arana — Media Center Paraprofessional

Lisa Madigan — Administrative Assistant, Attendance Office

There will be a number of changes which students and parents will notice this year. One of those changes is that Junior and Senior (Sophomore students will be issued a separate key card in addition to their regular ID/Activity Card) students will still be able to use the ID Badge/Activity Card they were given last year as their key card for all of the buildings on campus this year. This key badge will be issued to students once during their time at Boise High and will be an important item for students in terms of campus safety and security. Essentially, each students’ badge is a key to the building(s) on campus. This will allow us to keep buildings locked during the school day, with the exception of the main entrance to the building located at 1010 W Washington Street (the main building). Students will still be able to pass between buildings without issue using their key card/ID badge. Due to the cost of these types of cards, replacements will be charged for each student at $10 each. It will be critically important that all students keep track of these cards and get in the habit of carrying them at all times while on campus.

Registration is coming up in just a couple of weeks: seniors, August 8; juniors, August 9, and sophomores, August 10. Times for registration are 7:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. on the dates listed above. If you are unable to attend on the specified date, a makeup registration will be held on the first day of school in the afternoon. Please drop by the Brave Parent table and join, if you haven’t already. Mark your calendars for our fall athletics parent meeting (August 15th at 6 p.m. in the auditorium) and Back to School Night, which will be on Wednesday, August 30 from 6:15 – 7:45 p.m. Please enjoy the remainder of your summer, and we’re looking forward to seeing you all very soon.

Sincerely,

Robb Thompson

Principal

ACTIVITY CARD & YEARBOOK PHOTOS!

All school photos will be taken on registration day for student activity cards. Junior and Sophomore photos will be used for the yearbook.

Dorian Studios have made vast improvements with their online ordering system this last year. On the picture packet available at registration, in the upper left-hand corner, there is an "Access Key". Parents will go to https://dorianstudio.com/order/ and enter that code. This code will work online for up to 4 days after picture day so that parents will be able to go online and place an order. Parents can also turn in the picture packet to the main office if they don't order on line. If a parent comes in after that time, they will just want to make sure and wait about 10 days after picture day and then they will be able to call customer support at (800) 826-3535 where they will then be able to get their student's individualized access key, go online, see their student's picture from picture day and place an order that will then be sent directly to their home.

Junior and Sophomore picture re-take day is: - Monday, September 25th

Senior pictures will be taken on: Wednesday, October 11th

Senior picture re-take day will be on: Friday, November 17th
