CHS Choir Update #23
A Weekly Update from the CHS Choral Department
Greetings CHS Choir, Family & Friends!
This week's update includes some important information about our Masterworks Concert, Spring Trip, and Solo & Ensemble Contest participation, and so much more. It is critical that you review this information as there are a number of deadlines fast approaching. In addition to this information, you will find updates regarding our return to a regular weekly rehearsal schedule for Show Choir & the start of UIL Sectionals for our Varsity Mixed Choir.
As we enter the last two weeks of the current grading period, it is imperative that students begin to review their current academic standing, clear up any missing or outstanding assignments, and/or attend tutorials for those subjects in which they need support. Failing a class at the end of this grading period will, unfortunately, preclude any student from off-campus travel (All-State, Mad Fest) and would remove them from participation in this year's Solo & Ensemble Contest. Please take a moment to review your current academic record and use these next few weeks to ensure that you are well rested, prepared for class, and attending tutorials as frequently as possible.
As of today, our records indicate that over $1500 in student fees are still outstanding for the current school year. These missing fees account for approximately 18% of our booster club's annual budget to care for students and support their success in and outside of the classroom.
Students in need of support in clearing these fees are strongly encouraged to participate in our current fundraiser (more details below). Questions about making payments and/or payment plans may be directed to Mr. Cooley (ecooley@bisdmail.net) or our treasurers treasurer@chschoirboosters.org
And finally, we would like to thank the booster club and our parent chaperones that helped make last week’s trip to Louisiana a tremendous success. Thank you for all of your support in making this event happen for singers. The young men not only sang beautifully, but were also brilliant examples of Texas hospitality and kindness in their interactions with their peers and our colleagues abroad. We could not be more grateful for their commitment to excellence both on and off stage.
Thank you for your time, attention, and continued support of your student's participation and growth as a member of the CHS Choral Department.

Luther College Nordic Choir to Perform at CHS
On Tuesday, February 4th, the world-famous Luther College Nordic Choir will be on campus to meet and perform for our students. Those unfamiliar with this group by name might know them from their concert performances entitled "Christmas at Luther" featured on PBS during the holiday season.
During their time on campus, students will get a chance to hear this fine ensemble and learn more about majoring in music and participating in fine arts during college. We are thrilled to have this group on campus and to provide this opportunity to our students. While the performance will take place during 3B, students from all classes are welcome to attend during their lunch periods.
Students will be released from 2nd Period at 10:25 on Tuesday to attend this event in the CHS Auditorium. Following the performance exchange with the Nordic Choir, the Varsity Treble Choir will have the chance to work with Dr. Last on the music they will be performing at our upcoming concerts.
We are thrilled to have this world-class ensemble on our campus. Parents and community members that wish to attend this concert/clinic experience are asked to arrive at CHS by 10:20 AM and check-in through the front office.
BISD VOCAL SOLO CONTEST UPDATE
Registration for this year's Solo & Ensemble Contest is now officially closed. Our booster club treasurers are currently in the process of entering fees and applying payments toward contest balances in CutTime.
For those students that have not paid the full amount owed for their participation in this contest, all outstanding fees are due to the Booster Club by the end of the day on Tuesday, Feb. 11th (cash, check, and/or PayPal). Students wishing to use fundraiser credits to clear these balances are asked to email their request to our treasurers at treasurer@chschoirboosters.org. Any checks submitted to clear these fees should be made out to "CCBC" (our booster club).
Over the next two weeks, students will begin working with accompanists who will play for them during the actual contest. A schedule reflecting the day and period you can expect to work with your accompanist will be distributed to students by Monday, February 10th. Once distributed, students are asked to make every effort to be present in class to ensure that they are able to rehearse with their assigned accompanist. Conflicts and/or absences should be communicated with Mr. Cooley as soon as possible to help ensure all students are able to rehearse with their accompanist prior to the contest.
Students competing in the "Official Contest" that have not completed the form below are asked to do so as soon as possible.
CHOCOLATE BAR FUNDRAISER CONTINUES THIS WEEK
Last week we kicked off our final product fundraiser or the year, World's Finest Chocolate Bars! All students are strongly encouraged to participate in this final push to help reduce their fee balance and/or eliminate any financial barriers they may have toward participation in future department events.
Proceeds from this sale will not only benefit our program but also provide a way for students to directly offset the costs of their participation in program events (Banquet, Solo Contest, Spring Trip, Madrigal Festival, Show Choir Trip, et al).
Upon the return of permission slips, students will have the opportunity to sign-out boxes of candy bars (a total of 60/box) that retail for $1.00 each. For each box, students will receive credits worth approximately $18 in their CutTime account. Distributions of candy bars will only take place before school, after school, and during FLEX.
CHAMBER SINGERS CLINIC & PREVIEW CONCERT INFORMATION
On Monday, February 17th, the Chamber Singers will participate in a workshop to help them prepare for their upcoming performance at the American Classics Madrigal & Chamber Festival in San Antonio, TX. The clinic will run from 4:30-6:00 PM and involve working with a respected choral professional in our area. This is a required event for this group, please make all the necessary arrangements to attend.
On Tuesday, February 25th, the CHS Chamber Singers will be giving a joint concert performance with the Arlington High School, Colleyville Heritage High School, and Paschal High School Chamber Choirs at the Carr Chapel on the Campus of TCU. This performance will be in preparation for each group’s appearance at the American Classics Madrigal Festival in San Antonio, Texas on March 7th.
This festival is attended by over 40 of the top chamber and madrigal ensembles (mixed choirs of less than 24) from across the state. This is a highly competitive event that is deeply respected for its support of quality musical education and exemplary choral performances among high school choral programs in Texas.
We hope that you will join us for this performance in the beautiful venue later this month as we prepare for this event. Performances will begin at 7:00 PM. Admission is free and open to the public.
