Back to School Night

We are inviting all students and their families to travel the world of Ferson Creek on Monday, September 12th for our Back to School Night! This evening is in lieu of our traditional Curriculum Night of years ago. Curricular information will be shared directly from teachers as we progress through the year so that you have a clear understanding of grade level content. During our Back to School Night, children and their parents will visit their child's classroom as well as other learning spaces throughout the school.

Due to our limited parking, we ask families to follow the schedule below:

Families with last names A-M: 6:00-6:45 pm

Families with last names N-Z: 7:00-7:45 pm

We look forward to seeing everyone on the 12th!

The Ferson Way & CARE Meetings

Over the last three years, we have been creating our schoolwide motto and expectations tied to our Ferson Way. This year, we have added a word to our motto in order to help better reflect the behaviors we are looking for in students. When we refer to the Ferson Way, we are being Kind, Respectful, Responsible Learners. Students and classes who are exhibiting these characteristics receive foxes (paper cut-outs, not real foxes) as a reward. Classes work to fill ten frames with their foxes. Then, as a school we collect the ten frames to meet Ferson Way goals. Once a goal is reached, we have a school-wide celebration of some kind. For example, you may have noticed the AWESOME plastic cap art in the front of the building. This was done last year as a Ferson Way reward project. Other times, we have had special activities like a school-wide dance party, or Read -In. These rewards times are a way of acknowledging our students for consistently demonstrating our common expectations, and allow us to have some more fun in the process!

Previously, teachers were holding Morning Meetings as way to foster a sense of community in the classroom. This year, we have changed the name of these to CARE meetings. CARE stands for Creating A Respectful Environment. These class meetings are held sometime during the school day, have a monthly focus, connect with SEL standards and our SEL Second Step curriculum. This month, the focus is the Ferson Way. During CARE meetings, students brainstormed clear descriptions of what the Ferson Way looks like across school settings. Next month, CARE meetings will focus on Skills For Learning. This includes, being a good listener, asking for help, and self-talk. Additionally, CARE meetings are a time where classrooms can share with each other, as well as problem solve situations as they arise. The goal of these meetings is to continue to build our class communities that promote a sense of belonging.

D303 Family Resources

In D303, we value the opportunity to provide a community of care and support to our families, especially those faced with financial hardship.

If your family is currently experiencing a significant financial need, our community partnerships have several supports available for families, including school clothes/shoes, winter coats/accessories, school supplies, toiletries, holiday meals, and/or holiday gifts. If you would like to be considered for any of these supports, please complete the Family Resource Form by August 26, 2022.
