Whānau Hui

It was exciting on Wednesday to hold our first Whānau Hui since the covid pandemic began in 2020.The hui provided an opportunity to reconnect, strengthen relationships and discuss what we can do further to support our Māori students to achieve success. Some really good ideas around this were put forward and additionally, ideas which will help the sustainability of our future hui. We are in a position now where we will be moving back to termly hui. I would like to thank our whānau who attended and for sharing their ideas. Your contribution was greatly appreciated.

It's been fantastic to see that the majority of our students have been wearing hats this week at school. Stanley Avenue School is a Sunsmart accredited school and in line with our Sunshade Policy, hats are compulsory during Terms 1 and 4. Students without hats during break and lunchtime will be asked to remain in a designated shaded area.

NZ Shakeout Earthquake/Tsunami Drill 27th October

On Thursday morning at 9.30am, Mr Byers circled the school, ringing the handbell, signalling the start of our participation in the National earthquake drill and/or tsunami hikoi.

Our students practised the Drop, Cover and Hold action inside the class and if outside they dropped and covered like a turtle.

  • DROP down on your hands and knees. This protects you from falling but lets you move if you need to.
  • COVER your head and neck (or your entire body if possible) under a sturdy table or desk (if it is within a few steps of you). If there is no shelter nearby, cover your head and neck with your arms and hands.
  • HOLD on to your shelter (or your position to protect your head and neck) until the shaking stops. If the shaking shifts your shelter around, move with it.

Well done Stanley Ave.

A very successful Shakeout drill.

Stanley Avenue's Got Talent showcase

Today was the day we had been waiting for - the first Stanley Avenue’s Got Talent Showcase. Acts were created based on auditions towards the end of Term 3 and groups worked non-stop at lunch times to be performance ready.

Our line up was:

Stanley Avenue Kapa Haka (Team Tui and Ruru)

Keyboard Solo - Xavier Norman

Girl Power Dancers - Aiva Valencia, Ariana Parker, Cheyenne Smith, Emma Waterman, Hannah Corrigan, Ruby Whittle and Sura Ung.

This Is Me - Singers - Lydia Reddy, Trinity Lawrence, Jackson Smith, Olivia Mackey.

Dancers - Tara Lomas, Sophie Phillips, Phoenix Barrington, Leah Mapu, Alexis Broekhals

Dad Jokes Crew - Dane Horan, Weston Kaumoana, Quartez McLaren, Karez Dare, Palace Newton.

Our Hosts - Wynn Williams and Levi Jensen.

Mrs Valencia and Mrs Hamilton really enjoyed the experience of working with these talented students. They were incredibly proud of their manakitanga and whaiakiau.

A shout out to Whaea Adreena who has worked studiously with the Kapa Haka this year, alongside Mrs Valencia and Mrs Hamilton. Also, a big thank you to Room 13 for the showcase decorations!

Keep an eye out in next week's newsletter for video footage of our talent!!!

Gumboot friday Fundraiser next week

Next week we will take part in Gumboot Friday, in support of the' I am Hope' charity, who raises funds for, and awareness of, Kids Mental Health, to provide free counselling for any young person in need.

Having depression is like walking through mud everyday, so every year they ask us to put on our gumboots, give a gold coin donation and take a walk in their shoes for just one day.

Please help us support this wonderful charity.

ICAS Results 2022

HERO Digital Reports

Welcome to the start of Term 4!

This term we will be producing our very first digital end of year reports on HERO.

For this we need each parent to have their own email registered with us. You don’t need to use the email for anything else, you just need your own email to sign into the app on your phone. One of the fantastic things about HERO is that it is designed specifically as an app to work on phones and is the best way to access it. On the day that reports are sent it will be right there on your HERO app. On the report it will show you how you can download and print the report if you are wanting to, however it will always sit in their HERO profile for you.

The Hero app enables teachers and students to share information about a student’s learning, progress, and achievement to support learning and improve student outcomes.

It provides a platform for promoting student agency and building a strong partnership between the student, their teacher/s, and the student’s family.

Once you have downloaded HERO, open it and click on “new user”.

Next enter the email you have registered with us under your name, set your password and then either enjoy or let us know if there are any issues.
